Will Blackbelt and Eyebiter work out?

Ahhhh.....now I see your point Scott! That's an interesting idea, that I have not heard mentioned before about mixing African and New World Cichlids. Thanks for explaining. Anyone think there is a decent chance?

Will Blackbelt and Eyebiter work out?

My Blackbelt is definately more "beefy" looking, but have you seen the mouths of the Eyebiters? They must be 4 times the size of comparable Veija species. They are narrow because they are made to be predators, the jawbone is roughly 1/3 of the total body length!!!

substrate for java moss & fern

Neither of them require any substrate to grow just fine. You can go bare bottom, if that pleased you! They are commonly attached to rocks and driftwood of any size and shape. They are very easy to remove from a tank for aggressive medications, also. This makes them good candidates for Quarantine...

Will Blackbelt and Eyebiter work out?

I really want to save a fish that I saw at a local "mom and pop" fishstore stuck in a 10 gallon tank. It's a Dimidiochromis Compressiceps (Malawi Eyebiter) and it's between 6" and 7". It is being harassed by a fully mature Auratus (mean) because he can't maneuver around enough to do anything to...

    plant attachment question

I used some seemingly "normal" black thread (nothing spectacular) and after more than 3 months some of it is still holding firm! Actually, I don't think any of it has broken yet.

In your opinion, which fish magazine is the best?

Wow.....ditto to exactly what Valerie said. I would go along with her post word for word. I subscribe to both TFH and AFM, and tried FAMA for a while, but didn't like it much. I also am a fan of Practical Fishkeeping, but can't see myself forking out that much cash. For more detailed info...

Upgrading tank with current sm. tank easy??

I would setup the tank you want to upgrade to in the location you want to put it permanently, then add the substrate of choice and water and an airstone to get the water moving and oxygenated. I would then move over most of the decor that you want in the new setup along with a heater strong...

Eheim Pro 2 2026 Media Question

As long as you are not overstocked or as long as flow doesn't drastically decrease, Eheim suggests cleaning filter media every 3 to 6 months, but do not disturb the biological media except to replace 1/3 every 6 months. You can then bleach and thoroughly rinse the EHFIsubstrate and use it again...

    Ammonia spike! 2-3 PPM!

They have already been stressed and are now more prone to picking up any disease/pathogens. I would DEFINATELY keep them in the Q-tank for 3 more weeks. Ammonia/Nitrite can damage gills and cause other problems which could make getting "sick" much more easy than normal. I used to do minimal...

    Grind ceral for fertlizer.

Have you ever tried to grind a banana before? It will be easier to "blend" than "grind". Don't think that would keep your tank looking nice! Of coarse we could also try dried up, ground cow manure, or maybe recycle our own poo! I'm losin' it here!;)

    Dreaming Fish? Panicy Discus

Just as a precaution....check your heater and any electronic devices in the water. I had a fish that would really freak out sometimes for no reason. It started on day and I didn't think anything special of it till I noticed that the fish in the tank hid from me a lot more lately (about a 2 week...

    sexing

From my understanding, the one factor that seems to be constant in every reliable source is the blue speckles in the black blotch on thir sides. The blue flecks means a female. All other factors (fin length, color, size, shape) is tough to make a call on due to individualism of fish.

Which filter for 30g planted tank?

I ordered EHFIsubstrate PRO (1 ltr), 3 pack extra fine filter pads (for ECCO), and a cut to fit 30"x36" sheet of Pure Flo micron filter pad. My typical running setup (for general use) is two coarse filter pads in the bottom, full tray of EHFIsubstrate PRO in the middle, and two fine filter...

    Stump-Out = Stump remover?

Don't use it until you verify from the manufacturer that it is Potassium Nitrate only! I used something called "Stump Killer" from the store and killed most of my plants and I only dosed it twice! Be very careful!

Which filter for 30g planted tank?

thumbs up on the ECCO 2233! I'm using one on my 20 gallon planted tank, but I have added additional media. It only comes with 5 coarse and one fine pad, as well as one carbon pad. I'm very happy with the results.

    bad smell

I can't believe nobody has said carbon, yet! I don't know if you've added some fresh carbon or a new filter bag with carbon in it, but if not ....DO IT! This is one of the few useful reasons to use carbon. I save mine for times like this. Carbon is great for cleaning up colors and odors from...

    Question for experienced breeders:

I am in the process of starting to aquire the equipment and build a stand (shelf/cabinet) for several small tanks to be used in a breeding setup. I will be breeding one type of Apisto (probably cacatuoides), and plan to try to selectively breed them for specific traits. I really want to do a...

    Quick help!

You know what?.....I just noticed you said it came with a stand also....my bad! None of the prices I quoted are with stands. If the stand that came with the one you are looking at is good, and everything else is in good shape, it might be a good deal, then. I personally like to build my own...

    Quick help!

I have seen them several times there. I can't vouch for your store, but they should have them. Also, I decided against buying at walmart and bought my 55 at Petsmart. I then bought all the equipment separately, since I'm so particular! I like to have good equipment and I'm willing to pay more...
