Fish dying for no apparent reason, what gives?

Another possibility here, what about one of the gouramis? Is the remaining one aggressive? What type of gouramis are/were they? I only ask because I have seen first hand what a grumpy gold gourami can do to a tank full of neons and guppies. It is hellish. Also, I noticed you originally posted...

    Question about nitrates?

You are pretty much relgated to low light plants with only 1.5 wpg. I would stick with cobamba, java fern, low light crypts. Also, since it will be a fry tank, the addition of java moss is always good for fry. As far as nitrates go, you probably will supply an adequate amount through food and...

Fishless cycle: low KH, pH crash

Look, I completely understand everyone's concern about bad advice being dispensed, but if you look a little deeper you'll see that ultimately it isn't bad or uneducated advice at all... First and foremost, all water will reach equilibrium. The notion that an adequately filtered tank will...

What are the most colorful & interesting fish/tank mates?

I don't see any compatability issues, besides the angels snacking on the neons. I do, however, agree with OrionGirl that you're stocked to the gills. :) Also, I think that most of the fish you have would be happier if they had more of their own kind. Tetras, for example, really don't display...

What to feed Angel Fish, neons, dwarf frog?

I would suspect your neons and card might have been victims of the angels, depending upon their size. In the wild, neons are one of Angels favorite foods. (this is of course if you haven't found corpses or if the corpses were ratty and damaged). This might actually explain the strange feeding...

    warning about flourite

Same rings true with laterite. I made the mistake once, never again. Always double or triple rinse the stuff.

1 in 6 Canadians victims of racism

Happy to elaborate. The basic topic of the 60 minutes story was Canadiens, mainly in Alberta, adopting African-American children. There was lenghty discussion of the trials and tribulations of being a minority and being the caucasian parents of a minority. In that portion of the segment, they...

    Looking For....

Have you checked with Below Water? They are in Canada, so if you're in the states it may pose some difficulties and you would probably have to do a group buy unless you have tons of tank space. They do however get a lot of rare fish. Personally, I've never seen these guys in person. I'd...

    KH and GH tests concerning

Yeah, slow growth is the norm for anubias. I got a fairly large one not long ago. Initially it exploded in my tank, putting on 2 new leaves within a month. Now, it's slowed down, though it still takes in a bunch of nutrients and occasionally will pearl on the underside of the leaves.

    how would you...

Two pair of Altums, a handful of apistos (eremnopyge) and a big school of the orange morph cories. And vast tracts of scaping.

What kind of plant is this

I can vouch for that Harlock. I have a jungle of overgrow Spiral Val that literally forms a canopy over a portion of 10g. If I don't trim it, the upper parts turn red from being to close to the PCs.

    KH and GH tests concerning

Most of those plants, to my knowledge, should handle it well. Strange about the anubias, I would expect the swords to suffer most in that GH. What's wrong with anu? Is it just slow growth?

    Help!!!

No, no, it is very good, though there is some debate about how often to vac in planted tanks. I was thinking that if there wasn't a gravel vac being used, that rotting material in the bottom could have been stirred by the water change, causing the levels to suddenly spike. I've personally...

Fishless cycle: low KH, pH crash

Without fish, I don't think you need to worry much about pH crashes and KH while your tank cycles. Do you plan on adding CO2 when the tank is up and running? (This is something worth worrying about when the fish are there, though) Also, did you boil and soak the driftwood before adding it...

    KH and GH tests concerning

Your KH is perfect for plants and injecting CO2. If that's the level coming out of your tap you are in perfect shape. As far as GH goes, it really depends on the plant. Anubias would be a great plant for your GH as they do well in harder water. What kind of plants do have/are you interested in?

    Help!!!

Yeah, I agree with the consensus. Change your water until you get the nitrites and ammonia back down to zero and keep an eye on them. If they rise up again, beat em back down with water changes. Also, the suggestions that blinky had about established media and Bio-Spira are excellent. (I cycled...

What kind of plant is this

Ran a google search which revealed that Ophiopogon Japonica and Mondo Grass are the same plant, though it appears there are different color morphs or whatever plant folks call them. Check it out... http://www.plantsafari.com/Catalog2/Detail/00829.html

1 in 6 Canadians victims of racism

Interesting. There was a 60 minutes segment not long ago which touched on this somewhat throught the subject of adoption. I would be curious to see how this compares to the numbers in the US. For some reason I don't think that the numbers would be much different. Which is really a sad commentary.

    Help!!!

Couple of questions- Do you do a gravel vac when you change water? What type of filter do you have? Also, what level are we talking about specifically?

ICH is in the city water supply!?

Really, I've got to ask, is this necessary? Are you contributing anything to the conversation? Dave, were we involved in some sort of 'verbal sparring' that I wasn't aware of? Was it wrong of me to answer OrionGirls somewhat blunt reply with my own clarifications? Am I stepping over some...
