    how were the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates? You had some large fish in a small tank, so there could've been an issue there

    Because blood parrots are a manmade abomination. They look out of place in a South American cichlid tank with geos and rams. There's plenty of other neotropical cichlids like severums that would be better and more attractive options.

    Don't quit the hobby. Worst case scenario is to just dismantle the tank with the sick fish and start over. If you have the space for it, try getting a 10 gallon tank for quarantine, it will save you a lot grief.

    I would definitely stay away from the inch per gallon rule. It is not accurate at all and can be misleading. The keyholes will get relatively large, so I wouldn't even add to the schools, I would leave it as it is, except maybe add another danio or 2.
