    CO2 Bottles

I have heard very BAD things about these. They supposedly have other chemicals other than CO2 in them and are detrimental to aquaria. I'd stick with the ol' trusty!

    quarantine tank

That will probably work fine as a Q-tank for your 10 gallon inhabitants, but you need to find out exactly how much water it holds, since most meds give you amounts to add to a certain volume of water (ie: add 1 capful per 10 gallons). In the end, a standard volume tank with easily converted...

    Going shopping- need suggestions.

Yes, both are dwarf cichlids. I don't have them yet, since I'm still saving to build a stand and buy equipment for the breeding setup. Maybe by then you will have some other place to house them in. Just for info.....they sell 10 gallon tanks at Petsmart for $8.99.(tank only) From what I have...

    Bio Wheel???

Many people debate the effectiveness of bio-wheels, but owning a few myself I have seen that they, indeed, do their job. Once you understand what they do, it only makes sense that it makes an ideal site for bacteria to use as a home. It follows the basic principles of wet/dry bio-filtration, in...

    Going shopping- need suggestions.

I ordered the Pepso Food from Dr Foster+Smith (online....great store). I have seen Cichlid complete at Petsmart several times, but who knows if they currently have any... I am currently finishing up my bag of Hikari Cichlid staple. I also have used the Cichlid Gold. My fish liked...

    Going shopping- need suggestions.

I decided to get some Pepso Food for the remaining fish. I didn't buy any meds from Foster+Smith yet, so I'm gonna save up for the expensive Praziquantel from PondRX. It's obviously the best thing to keep stocked if you can afford the up front cost. It's supposed to last years also (shelf-life)...

    well water

I currently am weening a "test subject" Betta from tap to well water. I am doing it slowly because the pH is quite different! I have tested for pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, GH, KH, Phosphates, and Iron, and all have come out fine. The tap water around here is around 7.7 pH with over 5 dKH...

    Going shopping- need suggestions.

What about a bottle of Formalin (37% formaldehyde solution)? Would this last longer once opened? I'm not looking for years, just maybe last a year. I already practice the idea of buying food in smaller containers for max freshness.....but thanks for input. Also, I don't want several...

    Going shopping- need suggestions.

Oh, forgot to ask.....I have seen that Spectrum also has a "Thera-A Anti-parasitic Formula" food in their lineup......any input on this? Should I try it with meds?

    Going shopping- need suggestions.

I'm going to order some items online tonight and would like some ideas and personal opinions about a few things. First I'm going to pick up some food. I'm thinking of trying the New Life Spectrum brand (since I hear good things about it) and see if the results are what they say they will be...

    Sump Question

Personally, for a planted tank, I'd use a 300 to 400gph pump.....and NO MORE. You don't want too much current and even with head dropping the flow a bit, you should still have plenty of turnover.

    storing yeast?

Actually I'm using bread making yeast bought from my grocery store. It comes in small square packets that are joined together making a strip of 3 packets (does that make sense?) Anyways, I'm only adding 1/8 (or maybe 1/4 if I upgrade) tsp to my DIY batch (Hagen CO2 system). The packets hold...

    Anyone do a filterless tank?

I haven't done one myself, but I've read a bit on them. Personally, I wouldn't even try it with more than 3 of your Gouramis and maybe 5 or 6 Ottos. I would probably keep your SAE also. When they say to lightly stock a filterless tank.....they mean it. You will have alot of pollution being...

    storing yeast?

What is the best way to store yeast used for DIY CO2? I currently have the packets in the refrigerator. Is this the best method? Should I store them at room temp instead?

Had a weird dream about my fish

That's so funny that you guys also have dreams about your fish. Some of your's are as bizzar as mine! I had a dream about finding some type of wood platform similar to a backyard patio deck (don't ask  ).....Anyways, I needed to powerwash it and spray pesticide on it to make sure it...

    Black Belt (Vieja)

My blackbelt is about 6" and is housed with 4 Silver Dollars (2" to 3" each) and a Blue Crawfish. There used to be a Jack Dempsey in with them, but it died from unknown reasons a few months ago.:( I have little to no problems with aggression with any of my fish. I also feed plenty of veggies...

    New Eheim canister filter arrived!

Thanks for the advice. Did you have more trouble with air when you first hooked it up than you do now after water changes?
