Poor baby! I agree that kanamycin (broad spectrum antibiotic) may be a good idea. In the meantime just make sure his water is pristine. What temp is the water, perhaps raising it a little will promote healing. I wonder if he injured it on something.

Hi Caitlin, Don't worry about having just a few fish in a 5 gallon..... I have one Betta fish in a 10 gallon..... I keep wanting to divide the tank, but, she just loves all the space.

I love freshwater shrimp!!! They are quite expensive at LFS though. Would love to learn more.

I have a Fluval 404 that is outstanding..... best filter I ever had. It does take a bit of work, but my water is always crystal clear, and I never ever have problems with my water parameters.

What are you going to put in a 2.5 gallon tank? It is not really (sorry) big enough for a Betta fish.... they need minimum 3 gals and preferably 5 gallons. You could keep RCS in there.

I would recommend purchasing the API Master Freshwater Test Kit. It is very accurate, beats the strips hands down and is good value for your money because it last a long time. It is so important to be able to test your water parameters without having to rely on the LFS.
