    Disapearing fish; no bodies

I had a guppy disappear a week ago. No way to escape and no predatory fish that could have consumed her. I have a large population of MTS in there though. She had been hanging out near the filter return for a week after harassment from a male, so I presume that she died and the snails ate...

    Hairgrass carpet + MTS snails?

I don't have a carpet going with my hair grass since I don't have the tech to grow it that way, but the patches that I have around the tank are not disturbed by them. The baby snails like to hang out on the grass itself. I have the typical runners that make it to the surface, but never a clump...

    What to get?

That's a great foot print for a planted tank. My 55 is too thin to really get a good fore/mid/background plant setup going. You have lots of depth there to play with.

    Floating Plants With HOB

My Aquaclears on the lowest setting still blew my angelfish around, so the bottle trick worked out perfectly.

Malaysian Trumpet snails (MTS) safe in a Jewel Cichlid tank?

They have very hard shells and can close up a door to hide out. They also don't come out much during the day. Worst case your fish nip at them a little, but that's a good thing. It will let the snails know they can't come out when the lights are on.

    Lighting Recommendation 40b lowtech?

Fishneedit's T5-HO's are on the weaker end of T5-HO, probably more closer to medium light than high from my research. They are very budget-friendly on price. The reflectors and bulbs aren't the greatest, but that's what I need for my setup. I'm happy to take on a lower quality product for this...

Low Maintenance Plants for a 37g

I've had plants in my 37 tall for a few months now under the stock T8 light (I don't know the wattage though) in pool filter sand. I started with a pack of Apongenton bulbs and 4/5 grew out successfully. I've had Amazon swords and an Anubias in there for almost 3 months along with some Flame...

Perhaps some bronze, peppered or albino.

    Corys with fluorite

If you try smooth gravel, you should still factor in the ability to clean it heavily on a regular basis. Not an easy task with live plants. Their barbels can get infected if there's a lot of detritus build up there and it won't have anything to do with them being worn down or damaged by the...

    Mts

I added 25 of them about a month ago, and there's hundreds of baby MTS on the substrate now with a few on the glass/rocks. They mostly come out when I'm vacuuming the sand but most of them stay hidden. I'm about to throw 5 Assassin snails in there to try curbing the population explosion. I don't...

    Baby euthanization, what to do.

I had a runt Angelfish in a bag with 4 larger ones lose one of his ventral fins and the other one bent completely back. It was probably crushed into the corner by the others. He couldn't swim very well but ate food if it floated past him (attempts to hand feed failed, since he was scared). I...

    fastest breeding livebearers?

I've had 8 feeders (2x males and 6x females) in my tank that were used to cycle it a few months back and I've seen two fry make it to a nice hiding spot and avoid instant-death by cannibalism. I have no idea how many they've given birth to in total since they seem to livebear when I'm not...

    My first jumper

Years ago I had a Gourami that did that while I was at work. Found it on the floor a bit dried out. I threw it back in the tank and it swam away.. totally startled me. I think years later in a college biology class our professor was explaining about fish that can breath air through their gills...

Need advice changing gravel to sand

All good advice so far, which I followed when I did the switch last week. I left my fish in the tank throughout the process though, and they were fine. I figured netting, moving, netting and moving would be more stress than them watching me scoop out gravel with a clean dustpan. They all just...

    Yay, awesome angel deal!

Beautiful fish there. I know a breeder that lives about 35 miles from me that I connected with on Aquabid that breeds Phillipine Blue/German Blue mixes along with a ton of Discus and Rams. I got to visit his operation and he gave me 10x nickle-sized to grow out and narrow down to my display...
