    Getting peacock eels to eat

some of the eels i've kept would eat the frozen food, but others would *only* eat live food, and one would only eat live blackworms. i'd try that, if you can find them at your LFS.

    DIY turtle dock?

they'll rip the plants and pull them into the water, then eat them :) hard to say about your cork bark / PVC idea, never used cork bark and don't know how much weight it could support itself, but i think sealant would probably hold fine....not sure though.

    Plants in a turtle tank

good luck keeping things safely out of reach from their little claws...ours even tries to eat all the plastic plants--will try again and again. they're cool critters, but they aren't renowned for awesome brain power!

    My RES

i've seen baby turtles sold in dozens of pet shops around the country, but it does seem to be more common in FL. they just stick up a sign that says "turtles under 4" sold for research purposes only" and that's about it. i guess the law isn't really enforced, but it's a pretty stupid law anyway.

    DIY turtle dock?

here are some examples to inspire you....if you're talented (unlike me) and have space, time, and tools (unlike me), you could pull something like this off: http://www.turtletimes.com/Forums/index.php?showtopic=45936&st=20&start=20...

    Uncovered Aquariums Dangerous?

wow, bizarre thread here. i lived in florida for the past 4 years. i assure you: people are alive there. just checked the weather--72% humidity today where i lived. i'd check the humidity inside and outside your home with a hygrometer before you went to the expense of covering everything...

What Other Critters do You Own??

@vicious: sounds familiar...amazingly my list below too is a downgrade necessitated by moving in with my girlfriend a couple years back. she loves animals but we just ran out of space! when i lived by myself in a 2 bdrm, the second room (and the living room actually) were just full of tanks and...

    sorry its not fish.LIZARD question.?

^^ good advice above. i've kept a jamaican giant anole in a screen enclosure the last couple years, and she's been one of my favorite pets. green anoles are not too different in most ways. screen enclosures are for sure great for these critters, but glass tanks can work well too. IMO there is no...

    Raphael Cats

cool raphael ^^ i lost mine after a 1000 mile move, was bummed considering how tough they are and that all of my 'less hardy' fish made it. they really do make croaking sounds when out of water. if you're a night owl, you'll appreciate the raph a lot more than if you don't view the tank after...

How many angels for a 29?

i didnt see that they were dwarves...i wouldn't worry about the gouramis picking on the angels then, but i still would worry about the other way around.

How many angels for a 29?

my father had the opposite experience. his angel tore up a gourami pretty good. either way, it's not a good combination unless the tank is very large.

    New 55 Gallon Tank

but 3 is a good number to start with...didn't mean to give the idea that you should drop 20 fish in there at once. but you could build to to a large school of cories.:)

    New 55 Gallon Tank

jschmidt's suggestion is a good one, though i'd do more cories than 3. i like a nice-sized school of those puppies.

    New 55 Gallon Tank

i would get angels OR discus as recommended by richer. if you end up with a pair of angels, they might pick on your discus, as there isn't TOO much room for territory in a 55g, i believe. besides, you couldn't have a large school of discus in a 55g. clown loaches i'd leave out as well, as...

who here breeds fish besides live bearers!?!

3spot and pearl gouramis...they sort of take care of it themselves. i've bred danios in the past as well. i don't try the things that are too hard. i'm poor and lazy.

    questions about new yoyo loaches

generally, loaches' colors will become more defined as they get comfortable in your tank. however, the brilliance of their colors also is shaped by the pecking order they establish in their shoal. so that alone isn't enough to figure anything out. it sounds like the other two are healthy and...

Put my fish in the new tank last night

congrats on the new fish. balas definitely do need space, so you have a good excuse to buy another (big) tank! might wanna take that columbian shark back...not only do they get huge, i believe they become brackish as they mature as well so it won't work with your other fish even if you do upgrade.
