I run 2 cannisters, an eheim 2226 &2227 I use one for my mechanical and the other for biological. The wadd is not a fan of HOB filters. I myself prefer the cans, but by all means use what you've got. More is usually always better when it come to filtration.

why not just run your current filter for a couple weeks WITH the new one, you'll get better water quality and that will colonize your new filter as well. It's never a good idea to just totally change your filter media when it comes to biological. Mechanical(pads, sponges etc...) is a...
