    Paradise fish tankmates

Paradise fish tend to only hate each other or similar anabantoids. I've not had a problem keeping them with anything they can't swallow easily.

Great Paradise Fish--Picture Career Season 9

Gorgeous! Where did you get them? That type is hard to find in the US.

Ready to restock 29G. What's your coolest stocking ideas?

Are you wanting a centerpiece fish with a school of something in there or a bunch of smaller fish?

Passing of my 18+ year old clown pleco

Thanks again everyone. Feeding of sinking foods is much more peaceful, though...he was the boss of the bottom of the tank. LOL.

Passing of my 18+ year old clown pleco

Thanks everyone! He was a great little guy. I went over to the LFS today...but didn't have the heart to bring home another pleco yet. He was out during the day fairly frequently...when he thought no one was looking. Of course, if you got anywhere near the tank he'd dive for cover. Such a...

Passing of my 18+ year old clown pleco

It is with great sadness I report the loss of my longest living fish, ever, my 18+ year old clown pleco. I bought him 1/2 year before my now 17.5 year old son, and he was the only sibling my son ever had. Never grew a cm since the day I brought him into my house, so I have no idea how old that...

    How old is your pleco?

It's a miracle...I'm resurrecting my own thread. LOL. Just a note...almost 4 years later and my clown pleco is still going strong. He's 17+ years old...hard to believe he's still here! Just had to share that...feel free to return to your regular programming.

    10 gallon idea

You know...ember tetras, celestial pearl danios or white clouds could work in there perfectly. A school of 6 of any of those species would be fine (heck, for the embers and celestials....you could easily do 8 or even 10). We're talking 1" fish here. Ratio-wise, that's much better than an...

    10 gallon idea

    N. brevis (1 m, 2 f) would do great in your tank. They need slightly larger shells as they often share a shell when paired up. Fun little fish and will do fine with snails but not sure about shrimp.

    29g Stocking

If you can find them, a single or pair of keyholes cichlids would do nicely in there. I have a solo keyhole in a 20 long, and he's one of my all-time favorite cichlids (and I've been keeping cichlids for 35 years)...bigger than a bolivian ram yet peaceful.

    Compact internal filter

If you read the descritption, the TOM I linked to says 45gph, and the text says it's the mini model for tanks up to 6 gallons...not sure why it says 160gph in the title.

    Compact internal filter

I was going to recommend a Fluval Nano...I've had good luck with an old Fluval Mini (for 10 gallon tanks - about 15 years old and still going strong) and a Fluval U1, which is 3-5 years old and perfect, too. Both are internal filters, quiet and just great. However, the Fluval Nano has gotten a...

    personality fish in 20g?

Somehow I missed that there was a betta in there...missed the entire first paragraph. Paradise fish, in my 40 years of fishkeeping experience, make much better tankmates than most bettas...but there could be conflict between the species (although I'd expect the betta to be the problem...

    personality fish in 20g?

You have tons of options. Paradise fish, Bolivian Rams, a single Krib, keyhole cichlid, dwarf gourami...I could go on. My favorites from those listed are paradise fish (if you want an Asian theme), Bolivian Rams or Keyhole cichlids. All are very personable fish that pay attention to those...

Paradise fish (Macropodus opercularis) breeding/behavior question

I'd put them back together...mine spawned and stayed together in a 20 long without issue. Eric

What would YOU add to my 20g?

Bolivian or German/Gold/Blue rams, Apistos as mentioned above, L. curviceps (Dwarf Flag Cichlid), lots of dwarf cichlid choices if you want a cichlid.

new to fish keeping, need some advice whether on this subject or in general

First off, welcome to the forum. While we are a friendly group, you're going to get a lot of heat for keeping a fish that'd do better with a minimum 75 gallon tank in a 4 gallon tank even though it's very, very young. It will outgrow your tank in 3 or so months. I heartily recommend trading...

    Centerpiece fish?

A bolivian ram would be great in there...larger than the blue/gold/balloon rams and really, really outgoing. Like a small wet pet paying attention to you outside the tank, and fearless...my bolivian will attack the cat when the cat stands up beside the tank to swat at the other fish during...

Any cichlids for my new 36 gallon?

If you like Jewel cichlids, A. thomasi (http://mycichlidtank.oneinfostop.com/A_thomasi.htm) is a great option. Much more peaceful and a pair could go in your tank with some tetras or really just about any other fish in there, too. Here is a nice pic of one with fry from the above site:
