I have culled down my tank as I discussed in my other thread, and am working on finilazing my restocking plan. (by culling, I mean they have a new home, not a wattery grave)
I have currently 1 albino cory cat, and three blackskirts. I have been told to up my cory count, and I am thinking about...
I will second (third or fourth?) the fishless cycle. The shrimp will do the trick. Why run the risk of killing your fish?
Anyway, have fun, and don't rush it.
I should mention. One of the common plecos (the smaller one) is ded-dead after getting his butt kicked by the larger clown loach (who is now mining the gravel for some reason. just keeps moving rocks.)
The new home for the fish leaving my tank is somewhere arround 70 gallons, and is cycling at...
Ok,
Tanking all things into consideration, here is my stocking plan.
4 blackskirts,
2 Polka-dot loaches
4 Corys (my single cory is almost like having a washed out Goby but with whiskers)
1 kribensis
The only variable is that I have not decided to plant the tank or not, so the loaches may be...
I know.
There are or were some problems in Florida with the release of some marine species, I think.
Also, non-native carp all up and down the Mississipi river, probably from decrotive ponds.
There has been some problems.
Not sure, but you may have trouble with the chromis and the (true? false? percula? tomaotao? what?) clowns.
Mandarins are beautiful fish, terrific choice.
I am personally very partial to gumdrop gobies.
I imagine that primarily your display will be about the coral, so I would try to keep...
It is good. You always hear about the nitrogen cycle, but a tank will also go through an algae cycle. usually diatome, hair, bubble with other algae types along with or in-between.
Looks like diatomes and hair.
A lawnmower blenny, and or pepermint shrimp can handle the hair algae. Hair algae...
I like nasis personally.
I never had the need for bristle worms. Your tang won't stay small forever....
It is not clear by the body of the post what exactly is the problem. To many bristle worms? Tank messy?
I'd definitely up your nassi snail population if you are having detrius problems...
um, can you train a coyote to fetch a bird, and a bobcat to use a litterbox?
**** the pilgrims for hauling over the "American" shorthair, and probably beagles. They must be the reason the golden grizly is extinct.
In filters with seperate bio and charcoal filters. the sole purpose of the carchoal filter is useually mechanical and chemical filtration. The bio-media is kept seperate. Charcoal is only good for 3-4 weeks tops in good water conditions so those cartridges are meant to be changed regularly.
So the stocking would look like this.
6 blackskirts
3 corys
3 poka-dot loaches
1 (undecided centerpiece)
2 (maybe bristlenose plecs)
1-2 Shrimp.
That would bring it up to 13 - 15 fish. Seems like to much for a 40-50 gallon tank...
I'll have to think this through a little more.
I'll get the real dimensions and volume of the tank tonight and post that up here.
My initial though on lighting was 2 10k lights or one 10k and 1 50/50. I think that will mostly depend on the plants. Again, I may be way off-base as well. I'll do my research. A couple of 10k lights shouldn't...
sounds like you are early in the algae cycle. Believe it or not, algae is your friend in this case. it sounds like you are doing things right.
I'll let others that have been keeping FW longer than I chime in, but my opinion is... go ahead with your fish.
