1 gallon tank question

White clouds are schooling fish as well, plus they are cool water fish. And they actually get bigger than neons. Why not get your grandma a 5 gallon tank and a heater for it. Add a small bubble filter, some fake plants and then you could add a few guppies (stick to all male) and maybe a dwarf (not albino clawed) frog on the bottom.

quick question, I just set up an ADF in a one gallon, and he seems to be doing pretty well, but I want to add my Betta (I have had him for a couple months, and he is pretty even tempered) Is the one gallon really big enough for the two to live in?? If so, how often should I be cleaning it?? (the tank came with a small underwater filter, but it looks more like a plastic grate where the "crud" can fall down in to)

Yes a Betta will be fine, but you will probably want to get a HOB (hang on back) filter. They make ones that are small enough for 1g tanks. You will want to be doing weekly 50% water changes.

I have the grate filter set up right now, should I take it out until I get a new filter, or can I use it for the time being?

Kasakato .. I'd have to disagree with you. A hang on back filter will cause a current and because of the bettas pretty fins, they don't really like currents. It makes it hard to swim. I'd stick with the UGF.

You don't have to agree with me. We apparently come from different schools of thought on the subject.

I've never kept ADF's (thanks for the translation) so I can't really speak about their requirements, but if they do better with some sort of current, I wouldn't keep an ADF and a betta together.

Just my thoughts ...

I guess I'm having trouble understanding why it would seem like a good idea to go spend however much a new HOB would cost for a $2.00 fish when the UGF really isn't all that bad. I currently use those with my betta's and it works fine.

Maybe I'm a bit more pragmatic than you are. I say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
