1 gallon tank question

How are u heating those tanks? Do the built in lights help any for temp?

Side Note: EMG, I love ur Darts, I was going to get a few, but once I was at the pet store, I some how ended up with a Leopard Gecko instead, go figure. lol

In the summer I don't heat the tanks at all. In winter I leave the lights on all the time. It does help keep the temps up in a comfortable range for them, especially in that cubby hole on my puter desk where I have the four tanks. But, you will end up with more of an algae issue and have to do more frequent water changes to keep it in check...but all in all it works to keep them more comfy temp wise. I have heard of some folks using reptile heat pads under the tanks to heat them...and adjusting the temp by moving the tank more on or off the pad. I have never tried that myself but I think that would work fine too.

Lol on coming home with a gecko....I've wanted dart frogs since seeing them in person at a zoo when I was a kid...so it isn't likely I would have come out of that store with anything but....lol. Where I got these I didn't have a choice though...it's ALL they have there ! Great store !

I fed him with tweezers tonight - wow, that is a lot of work... I tried to give him a shrimp pellet, but he doesn't seem interested in that, it just clouds up the water.
Question - the water smells a little funky :P but I don't want to start doing 1/3 water changes everyday... suggestions??

I don't have a test kit, sorry, i am rather new at this and the guy at the pet store made it all sound so simple, I am just learning now that maybe it is not quite as easy as he made it sound.

It smells...funky...dunno...just when I take the lip off the tank and get close, it has a weird smell, like dirty water...duno, is this normal for fish tanks? Is it ok for me to do a 1/3 water chages every day? :dive:

smells kinda like lake water - can i do a 1/3 water change every day? or every other day?

When you say it smells like lake water, does it have a pleasant, earthy smell or does it smell like Lake Michigan? If it's the former, it's probably ok. If it's the latter, change the water.
