im setting up a ten gal for my brother,it already has a betta, what would be a good fish to go with him?
I dont want any schooling fish, something medium sized and pretty hardy.
thanks
Cool! I have 2 ten gallons in my room. Maybe a few platies in your brothers tank? Maybe a female and a few males so that when they mate the betta has some good live food =D
Corys and otos are generally the safest bet to keep with bettas. Plus they are functional, as corys would keep the substrate clean of uneaten foods and otos would keep some types of algae at bay.
Usually any small docile bottom feeder should be fine. I would stay away from colorful or long tailed fish though. Bettas usually see them as competition. If you want to chance a platy I would have a backup plan in case either the betta or the platy decide to attack each other.
this is a very tolerant betta..he doesnt mind female bettas or fancy guppies.
I dont want schoolers(cories, tetras, loaches),something about the size of my betta or bigger.
Other than a pleco I can't think of any non-schooling fish that would work with a betta.
Maybe some kind of killifish but they're not medium sized for the most part, they're small. There are some that get a few inches long but you'd have trouble finding them as most fish stores don't even stock killis, but you could look around.
There are killifish clubs everywhere, maybe you could find one and they'll have what you're looking for.
