Within the week I'm going to start cycling my empty ten gallon to give my betta some more room (coming from a 3 gallon), and I want to put some cories in as well. Would three be alright or would that be overstocking? Any help/advice is welcome.

are you going to do a fishless cycle or a fishy cycle?
and three corys would probably be ok in a ten gallon, but they prefer to be in groups of 6 or more.

I have 5 rasboras, 3 albino cory's and 7 ghost shrimp and they seem happy though the cory's are recent additions. I had a betta and and ADF in there but the betta became nippy and the ADF bloated so they got moved.

personally I feel that only dwarf cories are really sutible for 10G tanks, due to the maximum adult size most cories can attain (2.5-3") and the fact they need schools of 5 or more. dwarf cories only get to an inch as adults, so a ten gallon could easily host up to 7 of them with the betta.

I agree. :) Stick with one of the dwarf species of cories (C. habrosus, C. hastatus, or C. pygmaeus) and you should have 8-10 or so of them. I wouldn't keep less than 8.

^^ it's still cycling if you seed, its just in a shorter time frame.
