Hello. So I am getting a 120 gallon tank. The dimensions will most likely be 60x18x26. I am still deciding between SW or FW. I would like to see if this FW stock would work. And I also have some questions. The filter will be a FX5. The tank may or may not be planted but it will atleast have some fake plants.

(6) Bala Sharks
(?) Roseline Shark(s)
(?) Red Tailed Shark(s)
(6) Clown Loaches
(?) Dither fish

So I need to know how many Roseline sharks and red tailed sharks I can get. Also what should I get for dither fish and how many? And will this stock list work for the life of the fish? And any other suggestions for other fish and/or amount of fish? Thanks in advance

If im not mistaken, i would not put a Red Tailed shark with other types of sharks, but could be wrong, since it is a 120 gallon.

Yea I wasnt too sure about that. I know that in smaller tanks they have to be the only shark fish in the tank but I didn't know if it was different with a bigger tank.

Also I would like to add some tiger barbs if possible. Once again I need to know how many I can add. Thanks!

You sure about the balas? Even in a 120 gallon, those foot-long schoolers would get pretty crowded!

Well now I got a new problem. I was going to get a 120 gallon tank and make it saltwater which would make that tank my third. Then I decided to make the 120 FW and just get a small SW 28 nano cube tank. The only problem is that the 28 gallon would be my fourth tank and my parents will not allow any more than three. The other two tanks I have are a 55 gallon tank with a small Oscar and a 29 gallon FW tank with some random small community fish. I would like to get rid of the 29 gallon tank to make way for the nano cube but I have no where to put the fish. I was thinking if I could through them in the 120 FW community tank with the other fish.

Here is the stock list of my random fish in the 29 gallon tank:

2-Chinese Algae Eaters
5-GloFish
2-Glowlight Tetra
2-Blue and Gold Gourami
2-Balloon Belly Mollies
3-? They look like silver tip tetras but I'm not positive if they are

So here's the final stock list that would have to work:

(6) Bala Sharks
(6) Clown Loaches
(6) Roseline Sharks
(6) Tiger Barbs
(2) Red Tailed Sharks
(10) Giant Danios
2-Chinese Algae Eaters
5-GloFish
2-Glowlight Tetra
2-Blue and Gold Gourami
2-Balloon Belly Mollies
3-? They look like silver tip tetras but I'm not positive if they are

Will this work?

Two Red tailed sharks rarely work. I don't know if even in a tank as big as you're talking they would be OK together. As was already mentioned those Bala's get big. I would lose the Bala sharks, and drop down to one red tailed shark. increase the number of Tiger Barbs and Roselines. The Gourami's and the Giant Danio's would be fine I think. I'm not a fan of chinese algae eaters, they get fairly large and somewhat cranky and are poor algae eaters once they have put on some size. A couple Bristlenose Pleco's would be better. MAYBE the tetras and mollies will be OK, but probably not in the long run, so I'm inclined to say try and trade them for credit towards the new stock at your LFS.

I agree with fremented. With the balas and the clown loaches to be honest you are overstocked. Stick with the clowns, one red tailed shark and up your schoold of everything else. The roselines are gorgoeus and adding more tiger barbs will make for a very striking tank. I would put like 8 roselines and 20 tigers. Wow! It will be sweet!!

Ok thanks guys. I guess I can't get balas :(

So now I guess the stock will be somewhere along the lines of:

(6) Clown Loaches
(10) Roseline Sharks
(20) Tiger Barbs
(1) Red Tailed Shark
(10) Giant Danios - not sure about
these
2-Chinese Algae Eaters
5-GloFish
2-Glowlight Tetra
2-Blue and Gold Gourami
2-Balloon Belly Mollies
3-? They look like silver tip tetras but I'm not positive if they are

I'll try and trade some of my fish from the 29 gallon tank but idk if my local petsmart or Petco will take them...

Thanks. That's a very useful site. But it also told me my list is overstocked haha. It said that this will be fine though:

1 x Red Tailed Black Shark (Epalzeorhynchos bicolor)
6 x Clown Loaches (Chromobotia macracanthus)
10 x Roseline Sharks (Puntius denisonii)
20 x Tiger Barb (Puntius tetrazona)
5 x Glo Fish (Danio rerio)

But I still have to figure out what to do with the other fish....
