120 gallon planted tank

I do think that a couple larger schools would look really nice. So I am considering not doing as many Angels and doing more tetras. I did get Buenos Aires tetras instead of the Rio Von Flames.
I am wondering if they will school with my Serpaes like my Rummynoses do...

I am definitely going to try CO2. My first attempt at this on my 55 failed so I am hoping this time it actually works lol.

So I realized that this tank has been setup for awhile and I forgot to update this thread.
The Stocking is as follows.
Flora:
Amazon Swords
Red Melon Sword
Java Ferns
Crypt parva
Crypt spiralus (sp?)
Dwarf Lillies
Banana Plant
Anubias (2 species)
Tiger Lotus
Ambulia
Corkscrew Val
Rotala Indica
Ludwigia Repens
And I will be adding Italian Leopard Val

Fauna:
5 Angelfish
6 Buenos Aires Tetras
11 Serpae Tetras
2 Rummynose Tetras (had 5, then added 5, then all but 2 died. Looking for more healthy ones)
6 German Blue Rams
8 Otos
12ish Corys
1 Albino BN Pleco
4 Platies

I will try and post of good pic of the tank.
I am battling BBA right now. Hopefully I'll be able to get it cleared up relatively soon though.

I, too, have a 120g planted tank with Angels. Currently 13 Angles, but going down to 6 or 7 in September.

I think passing on the Apistos is a good idea. In my experience, I like to give GBR pairs a good amount of space, and I think putting an Apisto pair in there would just be too much competition...and the Apistos would probably win.

If it were me, I'd ditch either the Serpaes or Rummynose and build up whichever one you keep. Since you've got more Serpaes, those are the ones I'd keep. Large schools are much more interesting.

Of course, then it sounds like I'm trying to turn your tank into mine...I've got 18 Red Phantom Tetras in there :)

Can't wait to see pics.

I added in a school of cardinals.... they lasted about 15 minutes. I was hoping that they were big enough, but obviously they weren't. I have 1 lucky guy swimming around.
Instead I just plan to add on to the buenos aires and serpae schools.

O and 2 of my angels laid eggs.... they ate them within 6 hours or so, but I'm excited that 2 of them paired up.

Very cool! Do you have the 4' 120g or the 5' 120g? I'd like to see pictures when you have a moment. Unfortunate about your cardinals the same thing happen to me with neons once upon a time. My last experiement the cardinals were in the tank 1st then added the Angels which were to small to eat them at the time they had since left them alone even once big enough.

You may want to consider Congos as well which is an impressive fish in it's own right. I had buenos aires tetra and at least for me they did destroy many of my plants.

Running the co2 line into the return on your pump is fine. I use a needle wheel impeller on my mag9, it has little teeth on it to chop up the co2 better.

But DIY CO2 is not gonna cut it on a 120gal tank with a sump. Plus why does this tank need a sump again, the plants will hide any hideous equipment, if that is the issue.

Ahem...

This is the 5' 120 long tank. I'm not loving the depth of the tank, but I do like that it is 5 foot and not 4.
I haven't updated on this tank it a LONG time so I'll start with that...
The Buenos Aires are really beautiful fish, but the ate almost all of my ambulia. What they didn't eat I threw out b/c it because infested with black brush algae. I treated all the plants, raocks, wood, filter intake and spray bar with H2O2 which killed the BBA.... but only temporarily. I also added in hornwort thinking the BUenos Aires would leave it alonl ike most fish, but they've eaten it too :(
Between them and the BBa this tank isn't looking too good, but I have plans for a major overhaul soon.
I am planning to make this more of a large cichlid tank.
The stocking will be
1 Oscar
1 Blood Red Parrot
2 JDs (the pair from the 55)
2 Clown Laoches
1 Leopard Pleco

Now I know when full grown this tank will be over stocked, but I plan to increase water changes and will also be finding a new home for the pleco and clown loaches when they get closer to their adult size. I also know that the loaches are schooling fish, but at least for now I will keep their numbers at only 2. They are still active and are doing great even with it only being the 2 of them.
I am also switching over to seachem pond matrix for the bio media in the trickle filter part of the sump. These should really help because the media I am using now just doesn't have enough surface space to provide adequate biological filtration.

That pretty much brings everything up to date...

O and since I've neglected to add them thus far... here are some pics

Very very very old pic lol

These guys were great, but my male Angel at the time was just way too aggressive for them.

The new little O. Someone ditched him at work and we can't put fish not from our store into our tanks so I brought him home. Had been thinking of getting one anyways....

The Angels with their eggs (this spawn was eaten by the pleco that was in there).
