Hi all, i have a 125g tank that i need to remove/rehome some fish from. All the fish have been in the tank since around two inches but are now getting bigger and although its not been a problem so far i feel before long it may become one. The fish in there at the moment are as follows :-

Male and Female Convict cichld (breeding pair)
Male and Female Cuban cichlid (breeding pair)
Male and Female Nicuraguan cichlid
Salvini
Rainbow Shark
5 Silver Dollars
Small Oscar

I would like to keep the Oscar, Salvini and Cubans plus maybe the Convicts anyone got any idea's on this?

Steve.

The only problem that seems major is that those Cubans are much more aggressive than the other fish listed, especially when breeding

that oscar will eventually take over that tank.. maybe just him and the convicts would work?

when he's full grown you're not gonna want him to have many neighbors.

My Cubans have bred three times and although they defend there fry they dont seam anymore aggressive than the Convicts, My main concern is that the tank is not big enough for all the fish when they are adult size trouble is i've become attatched to all the fish. My LFS has told me they will take the Nic's off me but i will be sad to see them go:( .

The only thing I'd remove is the oscar. Everything else looks fine. Use some driftwood to provide line of sight barriers 1/3 the way through the tank. That should cut down any aggression.

Your tank is in no way overstocked.

The oscar is my favourite, I dont have any problems with aggression at the moment and i've got drift wood, rocks and some fake plants in there to break up the line of sight, i do 35g water changes weekly and my water is good ammo 0, trite 0, trate 30-40 its just that i'm worried about having an "over stocked tank" with unhappy fish.

yeh the oscars are nice maybe remove the nicaraguans and dither fish?

You are in no way overstocked. Just watch for aggression and don't add anything else.

i would take out the oscar and the rainbow shark. the oscar should move out because hes going to get huge and take up most of the bioload, anf the rainbow shark because its going to get beaten up by the cichlids when they breed. you should probably move the salvini too, but that can wait a little bit until you can get a 55 gallon for him.
