125g bulid thread

you could run your canister and the fuge/sump

all it would take with an attached sump is a submersible pump and water to feed it.

I blocked off the over flow(built in) on a 29..added a small pump and return.. got addition flow and filter.

my canisters will not sit any where but in the fuge/sump area on teh back of the tank.

so you plumbed the sump(existing) out of the tank?
using the existing to run the canister hoses?

No the tank just had holes in it where the sump once was, you can see in the back of the tank where the sump use to be ran to under the tank.

And the canister intake and spraybar are just hanging on the back of the tank

IME a canister will not have the same flow as a properly designed sump.
if you are using the supplied intake and return(spraybar)
the design will be correct.

you have them on opposite ends of the tank.

I would be curious to see the set up.
once you have it installed.

the original design appears to favor sump/fuge.
the back portion of the tank looks like it has a built in overflow. a center return. and plumbed for a sump beneath the tank.

pretty cool design.. I would have used the back portion for a fuge with live rock rubble, and a larger fuge /filter beneath.

which canister?

I have a 2028 on the tank right now, and will be hooking up a 2026 tomorrow.
Here are some pics that I hope will help with description. What would I have to do to switch the tank to a sump setup, and how much would it cost me to do it? What would this do to my co2? If you look at the last pic you could see the old intake pipe and the old output i think i am correct in thinking that is what they are?

So it looks like the filter is doing its job, but i killed the cycle when I forgot to put prime in the tank after fill up. So I am seeding the tank with a very large piece of driftwood, and a filter pad from one of my other filters. I also picked up some new driftwood for the tank tonight, and a bag of flourite to mix into the substrate. Also I got my big bottle of prime in. I put the flourite in and the tank went cloudy even after washing it.

I still think having the spraybar return from the filter inside the overflow box is a bad idea. You are simply not moving the surface of the main tank enough to oxygenate it. I would have both intake strainer and output spraybar in the main tank. There is no way you killed the bacteria with a water change without prime. I change 70% of water weekly in my 90, with no ill effects whatsoever. I do not dechlorinate. Same goes for my shrimp tank--they don't mind it a bit. IMO your trouble is poor circulation/oxygenation.

so you are thinking that i should still run a sump???
