12G Future Neon Tetra Fish Bathroom (Work in Progress)

As you saw in my other thread, I have an eclipse 12 as well, and something leaped to mind the moment I saw your tank...

The light on the eclipse 12 gets really, really hot after being on for a while. I would be concerned that you might up melting the floating plastic plant you have at the top of the tank there...

Thanks for the comment, though it's something I considered well before the purchase I can promise you. The hood appears to be raised high enough in comparison to the water line, that I haven't seen any problems. If it is a problem, I'll likely drop the water line some.

The thing is, the entire hood is plastic as is the light bulb enclosure, as is the frame it sits right on top of. There's several types of plastic all around, in fact in part I'm using a plastic cord tie to hold some of it in place and it also appears to be unaffected.

It's possible I could get a lower watt as well if it's a problem, since I don't have any light requirements.

Well the update was after a long drive, getting there after closing time and a nice quiet, long, dim acclimation time, I finally have my guests.

They only had 6 Neons, so I got all of them and plan to get at least 3 more.
I'm watching 2 of the Neons... 1 has less color and seems to struggle in the current occasionally, and it's not really schooling. The other has it's gill exposed like it's been injured, but it schools and behaves fine otherwise.

Edit: I had some Melafix I had bought a few weeks ago, and put in around a half strength dose.

The Dwarf Gourami (turquoise/orange) seems to be fine. It has really shiny bright turquoise patches by its gills though - is this normal? I really hope this fish isn't dyed.

The 3 Otos appear to be doing the best - they haven't stopped eating and exploring, and don't appear to be interested in schooling really. I do wonder though, I didn't expect them to be so interested in the surface. Do I have to worry these guys might climb out through the hose-space in the back?

Thanks.

With some stocking... and a few close ups of the new residents:

Here's the tank... notice the new layout of the floating plants, the bottom plants, and the addition of a feed ring. Also took out one large red plant - it just got too close to the filter and would absorb all the crap, and the food would fall in to it. I'm pretty sure the Dwarf Gourami sleeps hidden in the floating plants. :)

That's a pretty Gourami! Nice job.

Thanks. Here's a photo of him tonight. (I'm really trying to rule out any signs of Velvet, etc.)

So the stocking is good... does this mean I shouldn't add any more Neons? I was planning on filling out the number to 8 or 9, when the store got more in. :/
