135 gal tank

i have a chance to buy a 135 gal tank & stand fron craigslist.. shouldnt a 6 ft tank have center braces he claims it is full of water but says there are no braces???
 
Yea, I can't think of a tank that big that I have seen that doesn't have a center brace...I'd be careful with dat one!
 
thanks , I googled it and it seems some older tanks didn't have em but the glass is 5/8 " thick .. he's delivering Tank (135 gal) and stand $160...should be here in a couple hrs... We'll see....
 
I had a big wood hood that I made. I sealed it big time, and it seems to work great.

I was going to have glass cut for it, but never got around to it.
 
well I got the tank... I may be in over my head now. It needs some TLC to say the least . I jumped right into it tho, the bottom trim was beat pretty good so right now its upside down with no trim . While I'm trying to find some replacement frames with braces and trim I decided to reseal the entire tank .. I've been reading the Equipment threads for hours and feel confident that after I reseal it ,add new frames and trim , and maybe build a DIY Stand , me and whatever I decide to put in it will enjoy it a lot more... I'll be in the garage for the next few months but i'll try to keep updates maybe pics too .
 
Rally , do you have any pics of your hood? I have been trying to come up with something more of a frame than a hood , that i could make braces that would also support the glass tops.. The ? is what about my HOB... Maybe I could buy myself a FX5 for Christmas.... :rolleyes:

that is pix of mine. It was my first hood, so I could have done better. I had to use a canister because I forgot slots for HOB filters LOL....
 
Nice Job !!! thats a little bigger than I want , as I said more of a frame than a hood but definately something that will also brace it to eliminate any bowing... does the 135 that you have bow at all without a brace? thanks for the reply
