dwarf puffers are 100% freshwater, and don't necessarily need a neutral pH. I keep them in 8.0 and hard water, and they're absolutely thriving! Like most fish, a stable pH is much more important than a specific number. So don't go messing with your pH with any "PH Down" or other chemical solutions!

Dp's can be a pain to feed, though, as they don't accept prepared foods such as flakes or pellets. They require live or frozen foods, so unless you have your own mini-fridge and your roommate wouldn't mind having fish stuff in there, you would be better off with something else.

mjy, did you finally get your dp's? I saw you on dwarfpuffers.com trying to find them, like two weeks ago.

a nice SE asian themed community 15g would be:
1 dwarf gourami or 1 betta
6-7 rasboras, any type under 2".
1-2 khulii loaches, or maybe hillstream loaches if you can find 'em.

YES! thanks for askin plah, I did. I went to austin last sunday and after a few hour road trip both of my DPs made it back safely. And then the following monday my local petsmart got a large shipment in >:[ but its ok, these two DPs are awesome! The only problem is i dont know if theyve reached maturity yet so i can sex them, none of them have the brownish stripes down their belly. Do you have any DPs yourself plah?

I do. I originally got 3 dp's, and I was able to sex two immediately. One boy, one girl, one unknown. The male got too bossy so I returned him. Suddenly the unknown one "became" a boy! His eye wrinkles showed a little more, and he got more yellow in color all over. The pair are doing great. They have a 10 gal palace to themselves with lots and lots of live plants :)

The most accurate way to sex dp's is with the presence of eye wrinkles or not. Sometimes girls will have yellow bellies, and some males never develop a belly stripe. Also, my boy has a skinnier body, while the girl is more rounded and bulkier. This difference in body shape is apparent in most fish species, I think it has to do with the bulk needed to carry eggs.

i was looking at a 15-20 gallon tank for a small Dwarf Puffer setup, but can i find anywhere local to me that sells them?

nope...

One so called shop gimp mentioned "dwarf puffer, aint they marine fish"

needless to say i left...rather quickly

DarkEntity, try searching the dwarfpuffers.com forum. I believe we had a Scottish gentlemen (or at least one in the UK) on there who recently inquired about where to find them. If not, there are UK-based online stores that will ship live fish (you pay dearly for shipping, though!). Good luck!
