150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Begs a great question - if I can get a better price (would need to be much better) on the 150 the LFS has in stock is it worth it? Or, should I wait and order one with black seams? There is no rush to get it here - I am sure the stand / canopy will take a day or two to build (lol)! Please let me know what you think!

Coy, you can try contacting Barbie she has a lfs here in Spokane called aquatic or aquarium solutions, I walked into her store a couple days ago and she had a 210 125 and maybe even a 150 I aint sure, I saw the mission tanks/hoods in there also.

I think BK knows her

Prediction.... canopy and stand build + stain at least 4 weeks :D

If they have a 150 in stock for less I'd go for it. The black seams are nice but wouldn't be a deal breaker for me personally.

Vader I imagine you are pretty close with your 4 week prediction.

I just got the green light from my neighbor with the wood shop. It's a go!

as far as glasscages goes, I was too scared to order from them.

eg. threads like this scared me off:

I have never seen a GC tank, so I can't comment.

but in looking in to them I was a little put off by what I saw people saying about them.

granted, it could be all BS.

but I was too scared to take that chance with my tank.
Sorry to digress, but I read the links about Glasscages and I think I can concur. Their customer service personnel are a bit rough. My experience in getting my semi-custom tank (I just went with a different height from standard) was a bit of a fiasco - partially due to my own scheduling conflicts. They occasionally send a truck by my area (every 6 to 8 weeks) so my delivery really stretched out.

But, when I finally got the tank and stand, everything was perfect. The guys I picked it up from (I met their truck at a truckstop parking lot) were friendly and helpful. I've since put the thing in operation and I am completely satisfied with the quality of everything - especially the tank! In fact, my 150G (72" x 18" x 28") weighs about 400 lbs. They took no chances with thin glass.

Anyway, I think I'm a bit off subject as Coy can't get a Glasscages tank in Oregon, but I wanted to put in my two cents here.

I gave Marcie at the LFS a call. She was very nice in saying that there was no real break on the price of the 150 in stock since she would only have to replace it anyway. I completely understand. This way we get the black seams that we ultimately wanted anyway.

Progress: We went ahead and ordered the 150 tank with the black seams. She estimates 4 weeks.

It's time to build the stand and canopy. My neighbor's (the one with the wood shop) wife is gone for 10 days to Hawaii - perfect (lol)! He said I could use his shop or bring any of his equipment over to my house. Great guy!

I have a good picture in my head of the stand and canopy (nothing on paper yet). As always, any ideas / input / suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks but afraid gas to Spokane and back would be cost prohibitive for only a tank (building the stand and canopy). I do appreciate your help!
