150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Blyxa is a great grass (personal favorate when it comes to grass), which is weird since it is a stem plant... Both japonica
(great foreground plant maxing at around 6" assuming you do not get it terrestrially grown) and aubertii which grows to about 60cm (about 18") I think in a 150 these would make a great contrasting fore and mid ground plant (I say mid-ground cause you have 30" to work with). Some dwarf micro swords would work well for the very front, (assuming you have the lights), or a nice type of moss. Riccia might also be a possibility as long as you are willing to commit the time to weigh it down.

In the watt range I would aim for around probs. 450 to get the best of all worlds. Avg's out to 3 WPG which get you about anything. There are those plant's that want more but as you said the larger the tank the more forgiving the WPG's. Which can be the same for small tanks at the same time.

Awesome Matt - really diggin that concept. The step contrast from front to back would be sweet with the japonica and aubertii. I have micros in my 45 (they grow and look nice). The Riccia sounds like it might be a task!

lol Coy stay away from riccia. Its all fun and games until someone gets a cramp trying to net it out the tank.
But aubertii is very nice. I should be getting a plant this week. Also expect to pay good $ for it since most of the time it goes for $4-6 per plant unlike blyxa japonia $1-2 per plant (depending on size)

I don't know BK - how much light do "we" want? What I've heard / read says that the wpg rule changes with bigger tanks. For instance, is 2 wpg over a 150 the same as 3.5 wpg over a 55?
tell you the truth im not even sure how much the wpg rule breaks down in a large tank.
But i found a place where you can get 440w of t-5 (nova extreme) for $352 shipped

It would be a task but at the same time, done correctly is hard to beat when it comes to lawns, especially when you have the right about of CO2 in the tank. It isn't called Crystalwort for any reason.
