150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Do I need to leg these or set them right on the versa?? BWGAF

if you are having trouble fitting possible lights onto the tank with the canopy, you could always skip the canopy and just have the cherry stand. it still looks amazing and you don't have to possibly sacrifice lighting because of the canopy.

as far as WPG go, I wouldn't worry too much about it. In my experience with planted tanks that I have maintained over the years, as long as you have good lighting with good coverage and depth penetration, and you are using good fertilizer/substrate, the WPG rule is not really an issue.

eg. I have grown amazon swords the size of basketballs (that filled an entire 35 gallon) simply with two hagen powerglo standard flourescent strip lights (at only 40W total). However, I was putting root tabs in every other week as well as adding seachem fertilizer each week and they grew like mad.

and they are a higher light plant..

Coy t-5 is really becoming a headache for the tank. Its hard to find the desired wattage/size for the right $.
Though also fans would be needed in the canopy to get the heat out no matter what lighting you choose.

Theres another option but it might sound silly

Getting 6 of the 36" 2x39w t-5 strips for $82/each = $492 giving 468w over your tank

(i mean they do sell 4x39w strips but they come with actinic and will cost you $$ to replace bulbs)

I was thinking the same thing 12 Volt - the Coralife fixtures look good by themselves (not as good as the cherry canopy I know). What if we back off the cherry stand (dress it down) and go with a less "elegant" stand? Just a thought!

All of this is just thinking out loud - still looking for the cherry, etc. No reason we shouldn't be able to find fixtures to fit inside the canopy.
Can they be set on the versa without mounting legs is the question???
