Yeah we all just cant wait to see you handy man skills. So start taking pictures of the progress
I had to travel yesterday and today.
Progress: Coming back through Portland I stopped and got exact measurements (I hope - LOL) of the tank (they have a 150 in stock remember).
I also had time to stop and pick up the lumber. The 2x4s for the frame and a couple of pieces of cherry are pictured below. More cherry to pick up along with a sheet of cherry veneer plywood tomorrow (didn't have the truck today when I stopped).
For the stand - a pretty straight forward box frame out of 2bys (half-lap joinery) is the plan covered with a solid cherry face frame and 3 raised panel cherry doors. The ends will have cherry veneer plywood trimmed in solid cherry. The lip surrounding the tank base will also be out of solid cherry.
The canopy will be much the same only much less structural support, etc. Basically a cherry veneer box trimmed in solid cherry with a hinged front and sliding track (if necessary - depends on the size of the retro light) for the lights.
Finish will be tested with a couple of scrap pieces to see if straight poly will be enough or if we may need to stain in up a bit.
Aquaholic - if you like my planted tank just wait until you see my handy man skills (LOL). It should be fun.
Hopefully, I will be able to get started on the frame tomorrow. We just had to fire an employee and clean up the mess. Don't they know that I am trying to build a 150 here? (LOL)
I will post step-by-step pics through every part of the process.
