150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

The versa sets inside the lip and the lip is 1" all the way around - correct?

Here's a pic of what "lip" I am talking about ...

I will measure out, build, and set the canopy on this lip - cool??

not sure how to describe it.. but the glass top will be on the inner molding of the brace. So if you place blocks on the sides to hold the canopy on the tank make sure that the glass can open/close smoothly.

Yes --- the retro light kit arrived today, which brings up a couple of questions / comments ~~

1) How far above the water do I mount the lights? I planned the canopy at 18" tall and to suspend the lights at whatever height inside the canopy and above the water / top would be the best.

2) The ballasts seem to be about 80% of the total weight of the unit - should I mount the ballasts under the tank as the guy with reef geek suggested? If so, doesn't that make it a big hassle to remove the canopy for cleaning, planting, etc.

3) Any ideas, input from those of you who have installed a retro kit would be greatly appreciated.

Each bulb has it's own reflector that attaches to it ~~

IceCap's - the makers of the Ballasts - instructions say to mount the ballasts above the water line in a location with sufficient air flow to permit cooling. Also, to avoid mounting the ballasts inside the light fixture next to the lamps.

It looks like on the outside back of the canopy?!?
