I would just go with what you know works. Is the Flourite the black or red kind? I have the red and I like it but I would like it to be a little more brown.
Decided to go with the black flourite (not black sand). We will mix about 2 parts or 3 parts sand to 1 part black flourite ... with the black background we don't want the tank to get "too" black.
Here are today's additions (150 lbs 2/12 gravel, 75lbs SeaChem Flourite Black, and the 10lb Co2 canister) ...
WOW!!! that only took a couple of hrs. to read this whole thread. everything looks awsome. that wood work is amazing. id love to be able to do 1/10th of the wood work you did. you should of filmed it and sent it to PBS or whatever station plays this old house and yankee workshop. keep up the good work.

Wow - I really appreciate the compliments. Not sure I'm ready for any kind of yankee workshop, but thanks a bunch for following the thread and the great vote of confidence.
Here's a few more. The camera has a bit of a tough time trying to get the true "red / burgundy" color of the wood.
