150 Gallon Build Thread ... From the Start

Actually, the best solution I've been offered regarding the slime issue was given to me by Orlando at GLA. He says it's from organic matter breaking down in the water column, as I've also heard from several members here as well. You can get a small skimmer attachment which you can attach when needed and run for about 5 minutes on the intake of one of your filters, then swap back to your normal intake. Clears it right up. You can get them at Drs. Foster & Smith pretty cheaply he tells me. Oh, and yes, that definately look like a whiptail cat of some kind.

Thanks Mind - I'll check it out!

2 weeks w/ water ... time to let it grow (hopefully).

We removed the lace-leafed java fern on the driftwood and replaced it with anubias barteri. We also added some aromatica, rotala indica, a couple pogostemon stellatus, a couple aponogeton longiplumulosus, and some java moss to the points of a couple of the manzanita sticks. At this stage we are only "experimenting" to see what will grow.

Other new additions are a total of about a dozen small cardinals and 4 rummies (starting to build the schools). They were added as 3 small groups. Also, a red whiptail cat has been added to the cleanup crew.

There's a plant swap in Portland 2 weeks from today - hopefully we can go and fill in some of the blanks ...

Thanks for checking out the thread ...

Looks like a real nice start. I wish there were plant swaps and such around here. Thinking seriously about posting at the LFS a couple towns over in Chico and seeing if I can't start an aquatic plants club myself. Maybe put up a website with a meeting calender and see if anyone other than me in the area would be willing to host gatherings.
