It's about time for an update. This past week or so we've been pre-occupied but we finally had some time to pick up more wood and work on the stand this weekend.
We added the additional 2x4s and then finished the stand. We also built our first canopy.
Then we stained the stand and canopy today and we're waiting for it to dry.
The front panel of the stand is removable and attached with velcro.
The canopy.
Rear of the canopy. The holes are for plugs and canister tubes. The square cut out is where an Aquaclear 110 will go.
This is the first canopy we've built... because we bought thin plywood we had to attach the hinge on top of the canopy and the sides of the lid come up a little. We'll probably add a couple strips of velcro on both corners to keep the corners down.
This is the first time we tried staining wood. Having to worry about what wood we use and which way the grain faces is relatively new to us (and kind of a pain!). We're anxiously waiting for the wood stain to fully dry and see what the final color and finish looks like. We figure if it turns out bad we can just paint it black. :lol2: :shakehead:
Let us know what you guys think, good or bad.
