if you put old media in a new filter, you'll have to put the shrimp in right away or feed the bacteria with food or ammonia of some sort other wise it will die and be useless. you can just put the shrimp in and monitor ammonia closely for the first couple weeks. you might notice a mini-cycle with an ammonia spike, but you may not. you'll just have to see.

thats what i was wondering, so if i put the filter media in and then like a snail or 2 ill be good just wait a little?

why not cut your filter media that is in the older of your betta tanks in half. leave half in the betta tank and add more media to replace the half removed. put the other half in the new shrimp tank filter and put half new media as well.

thats what i was planning, im in canada but when i get home on the 19th im going to start building that canopy and stuff ASAP, smartdog126 is helping fo sho meh
