2.5 Gallon DIY Canopy and Stand Project

Two goldfish in a 75 would be fine. The min. for one is 20 gallons and 10 for each additional goldfish. Goldfish get to about 12". A 75g is the same size as your 55g but 18" rather then 12". I have a 12-14" long and about 8" high zebra tilapia in my 125g and he isn't even 3lbs. That's him in my avatar. Plus I believe in great filtration. I might get a 75R with a UV sterilizer like I have on my 125.

Anyways back on topic... DoN_WoN do you think that you might redo your canopy to fit your new light in it?

Sorry for the highjack DoN_WoN... Have a bump. ;)

Here are the "feeder" goldfish that were in my 170g indoor pond.
A couple were at least 8", excluding the tail. And easily weighed over 2 lbs and growing.
Aint no way 1 of those, in a 20g would be right. :headshake2: let alone 2 in a 30, 3 in a 40 etc.

Your avatar fish is nice! But a goldfish at the same length is probably going to weigh at least 3x what that fish does.

Now back to DoN_WoN's 2.5 DIY stand/canopy. :)

Well they will be fine for a year. Then I'll give then to a friend that has a pond. And get fish that I like better. I wasn't happy when I found out Auntie let him play the carnival game. She wanted to put it in a bowl, right now until a bigger tank they are in a 10g. I gave him the choice of the tank or food for my fish. Sorry just not a fan of goldfish. Nice pond by the way

I actually found a picture of a stand/hood I made for a 2.5g about 2 years ago, lighting and filtration all within for my beta, who currently resides in a 5.5 that I made a scaled up version of and will load a picture of later. The whole hood is hinged and flips open.

wow!! thats amazing! what kind of lights and filter do you run in that? i would love to see the 5.5 gallon!

Thanks, the beta got to big for the 2.5 so 5.5 now, and his bubble nests would dominate the tank. Lighting is actually an under cabinet fluorescent 6" from wal-mart that was about $12 and filtration is a Aquaclear 20 with the flow turned all the way down. Will try to post the 5.5g soon but Im building another for a buddy that I will load up also. Off topic but here is a 44g pentagon I made a hood and stand for after resealing a free tank from the lfs. Sorry its a SW wrong thread.

I built this one for my 5.5 gallon shelldwelling cichlid tank.

If anyone wants to know how to make it/what to use, etc, just PM me

I just used decorative molding and mitre cut it all to fit into a square, then cut a rectangular piece of wood for the lid, hinged it on and put a handle. I also made a "platform" to hold the tank up a little in the base. I stained all the wood with Minwax "Early American" wood stain and then coated it all with two layers of Minwax Gloss Polyurethane seal.

PS: Sorry the pics are so big, I didn't realize that when I uploaded them!
