2 Penguin Bio-Wheel 350's on a 60 gal?

Yeah my Walmart version doesnt have the biowheel. Are "cartridges" like the blue ones in my filter now? If so, can't I just use the ones that are made for that filter?

I've managed to stick the wal-mart cartridges into the Penguin filter - so yeps - they're interchangeable. Thing is if you buy them in a box of 6 from the LFS they work out cheaper than buying the plastic-bag packed ones from walmart

So is 2 of these okay, or should I just put 1 in the tank? I would like to keep my tank as crystal clear as most of your tanks on this forum, and I figured having 2 would acheive this. Am I right?

Just another thought...........If you guys suggest that I get 2 for this tank, will that be too much flow in the water for my fish? I will be having some angels and dwarf gouramis as well and I'd like to make sure that 2 of these filters wont be too much for them. I'll be putting one filter at each end. Also, will I still need an air stone?

I've never had angels, but dwarf gouramis usually do okay with current, as long as it's not too crazy and there are clumps of plants or rockwork for them to find some relief, should they want it. With two Penguins, you shouldn't need an airstone. Two biowheels will provide plenty of surface agitation and gas exchange.

Also, to cut down on cost at the beginning, could I get away with just using 1 Penguin Bio Whell 350 and add the other one later, or should I put them both on at once?

No, it wouldnt be too much flow.

Although, I believe these bio-wheel filters are overrated. If I were you, I would buy 1 of those penguin 350 filters and 2 or 3 sponge filters.

These sponge filters are amazing; I use them in all of my tanks.

Dont forget, you'll need an air pump!

i have to admit.. i havent done any sort of testing on my tank to see if there is THAT big of a benefit from a bio-wheel, but it sure looks cool! :D

IMO, It would be a good idea to run 2, one in each corner, if i remember correcly that's the only filtration you have.....:)
