Sorry to hear about his escape. If you're not going to try another newt, you might consider a hillstream setup. That would just require some aquascaping, but would preserve the work you've put into the manifold.
That's a very cool thread. I bet that will turn out nice. I'm actually thinking of copying your manifold and doing two separate 20L. Once for darters and one for some gobies and loaches.@fermentedhiker

I considered a hillstream setup but I love amphibians and newts in particular. I also like the idea of land and water integrated so at this point I'm thinking a corkscape paludarium with a drip bar. As far as newts go I can only find Chinese fire belly newts right now.
