Sorry to hear about his escape. If you're not going to try another newt, you might consider a hillstream setup. That would just require some aquascaping, but would preserve the work you've put into the manifold.

I considered a hillstream setup but I love amphibians and newts in particular. I also like the idea of land and water integrated so at this point I'm thinking a corkscape paludarium with a drip bar. As far as newts go I can only find Chinese fire belly newts right now.

That's a very cool thread. I bet that will turn out nice. I'm actually thinking of copying your manifold and doing two separate 20L. Once for darters and one for some gobies and loaches.

That's really sad about your newt, but I think you should get a pair of Firebellied toads. Mine are really cute, they hop around a lot and they would cheer you up fast.
