20g Cork Scape Build

Today's score: custom glass top.

I just picked up the glass for the top, I had it cut to give me space in the back corner for filter hoses, and a notch in the front for feeding and lifting it open. I used two small bits of hinge from an old broken top I've been cannibalizing. I'm pretty happy that it all fits.

you can see the new filter set up too, including the hydor inline heater... I forgot I had it!

also, check out how red this cork is underwater, pow!

I boiled mine to kill any "extras" & tried various sizes of slate as weights. That's another reason for me. Once I get fish in the tank I can deal with any escapee pieces out of the water. Bought a couple slate tiles today, they're pretty heavy.

What brand is the black silicone? I may just use clear I have but yours looks nice.

edit: nice top

thanks! I like the top too, even though they cut the back corner hole too small.

the silicone is GE Silicone I in black. was hard to find. it has the nicest color underwater. not all glossy, kind of almost brown. they had bronze color too, and I found brown online, but local selection was limited and I'm using black substrate.

I didn't boil my cork. I wanted to, but I wasn't really set up to boil such large pieces, and I was rushing. I was also worried about premoistened cork adhering to the silicone. I did, however, really brush them hard with a stiff plastic brush, and now that everything is in place, I've been running warm chlorinated water through the tank with carbon in both filters and with an extra pump (with uv sterilizer) for fast circulation, and spent a good 2 hours yesterday brushing off dust and debris, and blowing a powerhead through all the nooks and crannies with a hose. all in all, I'm not so worried. from the last tank I know that the shrimp and snails love the cork's natural stuffs.

Thats what happens when you're in a hurry, LOL. I'm going to dry mine out again, it'll probably take forever. I wanted to see it wet though & get a start on tannin reduction.

I think I saw GE black once when I didn't want it, ain't that the way.
