20L Stocking - what do you think?

Mollies are a bit better today, ammonia was still .25 so I got a new Seachem ammonia indicator that hangs in the tank. I read online it doesn't interfere with Prime. I did a 50% WC and I decided to dose Pimafix and Melafix to help the platty along with healing, also noticed 1-2 fish had stringy white poop. Hopefully this will cure all my woes. Nitrates still low so here's hoping for the best!

Btw, those fish meds are STRONG smelling whooowheee.
 
Hmmm...is it me, or does this seem a little excessive? I would try increasing the temperature and adding aquarium salt before delving into chemical treatments. Allow the stress to settle before doing a 50% water change. 20% I can see, but anymore than that isn't necessary right away.

Btw, is that a piece of mopani wood in your tank?

Bummer about the mondo grass (kyoto). I accidentally bought some once too. The pet store sells them as aquatic plants so how can customers know any better?
 
Well sometimes I get OCD about new hobbies like this, I read ammonia is the worst thing to have in water so I was doing the large water changes to get rid of them (prob due to me over feeding).

Im gonna do another small water change tomorrow maybe 20% because I read melafix doesn't mix well with Bettas. Funny how I read that AFTER I jumped into treating and now its too late to change water or ill wake everyone up.

Good news is sick Molly is way better and normal now, fins normal and all, picking at gravel and inspecting everything etc.

Im probably stressing out the fish too much so after the 20% water change tomorrow im just going to leave it be for a week and see how it goes. Im having really good luck with none of the fish I have dying and its my first real tank (let alone having platy fry thats either hiding or have been eaten up)

Oh and about the wood, its just a random ornament I picked out from Petsmart that was a tad too large for a 20L but I think it looks great.
 
Yeah, now you have to do water changes to remove the medication. Next time, it might be best to wait a few days. Or place new fish in a quarantine tank to ensure, if they do turn out to be sick, that they don't contaminate the fish you already have. Once the meds are out of the water, a weekly water change of 20% is plenty to start with and can be tweaked if needed later on.

Those meds sometimes damage aquatic plants too. :(
 
I guess all the stress I was causing the fish is taking its toll. 2 days ago I saw the betta had developed ich, but I seemed to have caught it early. There were about 3-5 white spots on the betta, and maybe 1-2 that i could see on the Molly. I checked water params and its still the same, 0/0/5 ppm nitrates. Did a WC and slowly added salt for treatment. about 1.5-2 tsp/gal with this nifty drift system I made using an old water bottle. I also slowly bumped up the temp to 82, and raising it to 84-85 today to speed up the process.

Amazingly when I woke up today, theres only 1 white spot on the betta and I can't see them anymore on the Molly. They were there for almost 2 days until I started treatment and now they seemed to have slowly dropped off. Fish seem happier now. Betta was a little annoyed with the salt in the begining but he's back to normal.

Even better side effect was that the Platy's tail rot is gone, its slowly healing and I don't see any white cloudy sores that I had seen before.

Salt is amazing! :D
 
SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY MOLLY!

I think it broke her back or something! I noticed this today, she swims around with no movement of her back fin at all. Its clamped but the rest of her fins are open. All it does is hang limp and looks like deadweight dragging her down while she meanders about. She's basically swimming with no back fin at all. Do you think she broke it?

Well I got some plants since my non-aquatic plants petsmart ripped me off on are starting to die. Can someone help me ID them? I know one of them is anacharis, but I cant tell what the others are. I think the leafier one is a crypt or fern but im not sure....

Pic 3 looks like Java Fern. The sword looks like it may require more light.
