230 Tank Build

On your durso standpipe, i like that idea of a quick connect on a valve... did you glue the hose into the cap?, or is it tapped? or just friction fit?

Drilled end cap for 1/4" OD air tube. I'll end up caulking or glueing but it actually seems to fit almost perfectly.

I have a question for you. when trying to begin installation of the closed loop returns the bulkeheads start to rotate as I tighten the NPT into each. any advice on how to get all these bulkheads, particularly the 1" to stay tight?

Common problem. As you tighten the return you are actually un-tightening the bulkhead.

Normally you just go ahead and do your return and **** the bulkhead. Then go back and align everything and re-tighten the bulkhead. Any reason this won't work in this case?

Good to know - I think?

I don't see why not, you tell me?

Hopefully, I'll be able to respond with my first-hand experience by the end of this weekend. ;)

Sump

I finally created my sump this weekend.

In interst of full disclosure, I used Melev's DIY sump as a guide. http://www.melevsreef.com/

Although certainly not as clean, aesthetically, excess silicone being quite messy, I am hopeful it will be functional and stable. Time will tell I suppose, especially when I water test it. I am going to allow extra time for the silicone to cure, since it is located in my basement with relative high humdity.

Thoughts?

Wow!...looks great man!
cant wait to see water flow through it!
I have been working on mine for 2 weeks, (mostly making water..lol) and have to go get my final plumbing pieces for it this morning..
one problem i had.. the flow coming over the bubble trap is so fast, it cascades violently into the retun pump section, and makes tons of bubbles.... looks like yours has a shorter baffle on the end to help battle this..if that works, i may have to copy it...
well...off to the store...I'll post pics of mine later today..

Looking good.
