25 Gallon Experiment

Just an update. It has been 15 days and the tank looks almost exactly the same. Java moss is growing like I knew it would and hair grass is pretty much the same as when planted. It is still healthy but I think it will take quite a long time to grow in, if it ever does. I am really amazed that the grass is not dead yet. No pics because it looks the same but will post pics in 2 weeks when I get back home. Hopefully there will be some change (for the better I hope)

If you want an inexpensive, no fuss school of fish, Harelquin Rasboras are my favorites. They have bold patterns, not necessarily bright, but they do have a gold glitter to them at the right angles. Check them out here.
Sorry I didn't respond to this earlier. I have a scholl of 20 Harlequins in my 75 and I think they are beautiful.

i didn't catch this earlier... but i think cardinal tetras would look really good in there.. if you want something a bit more hardy/active i really like serpae tetras myself... i have a school of 20 of em and they are pretty cool.

Update

It has been a while since I posted anything on this experiment so here it is. The picture is darker because no flash was used as was in the first pic.
The Java moss still grows well but the hairgrass does not seem to move at all. It does not die but also does not grow. There is less hairgrass in the tank only because when I vacuum, I manage to suck some up because the root system is not really growing. This is with a standard aquarium 17 watt bulb with no K rating on it so I am sure it is not the right lighting to begin with. Don't know what else to put on the ground exept maybe somehow keep java moss down there and make it a one plant tank. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Very striking!

swell setup , like you I have not had very good luck with hairgrass even in good lighting and co2. My chain sword has pretty much covered it all anyway.
Keep the posting updates :grinyes:
