25 Gallon Experiment

swell setup , like you I have not had very good luck with hairgrass even in good lighting and co2. My chain sword has pretty much covered it all anyway.
Keep the posting updates :grinyes:

I have no problems with hairgrass as you can see if you look at my fish stuff (in sig). In both my 90 and 75 gallon tanks I have between 1 and 1-1/2 wpg with Co2 and it thrives. I wanted to see just how much lighting is actually needed to grow it. It seems to live ok but definately doesn't thrive with only about 3/4 wpg and no ferts. The hairgrass was also taken out of the other tanks and had good roots to begin with. I don't think it would ever even survive if just planted from the pot.

I have some green lloydea in a 5 gallon with a small no k rating bulb and it grows very well floating at the top. a banan plant would probably do well in there too

That actually looks pretty awesome as is. Your aquascaping is very original and striking. What happened to the little plant in front? Not enough light for it? Might be nice to stick something else there, but its looking pretty great regardless! Cant wait to see it with fish!

The Val didn't make it. I didn't think there was enough light but threw it in anyway instead of throwing it out. I just put some Cryptocoryne wendtii ''green'' in it's place and will see how that does. I also changed the light to a 17 watt 5,000K bulb and see if that makes any difference to the hairgrass. I do have one female swordtail in the tank just to keep things going but edit it out of the pics because it really doesn't look right in the tank. I still don't know fish to put in it. The LFS around here have limited or plain species. I am going up to Toronto on the weekend and will go to Big Al's and see if I can get something there.
