I would choose the 29 long.

it depends on what fish you want. tall tanks are better for angels and other tall fish, while long tanks are better for hyperactive fish like danios and rainbows

if not truely a 20 gal tank differential it could be a 29/27 issue...

i would go with the 20 long. i have a couple of these tanks and i really like them.
