29 gal Tang tank

I am currently setting up a tang tank, and would like some advice. I've been told by some this will be fine, others not so fine. The planned stocking is 3-4 occies or brevis (I'll know for sure which ones come in tonight), 1-2 julies (either dickfeldi or transcriptus, preferably) and then a single comp. The shell piles would be in the middle, rock piles at each end. There will be a few tough plants (java fern, onion plants) to break up lines of sight, too.
Do you see any problems with that and/or suggest something different?

I can't wait to get the shellies! I've been trying to get some in for almost a year now! :grinno:
 
It doesn't seem to be a problem. I just wonder how peaceful the comp will be, whether or not it'll eat the occies or brevis depending on how big they all are. My comps are still pretty small and they would easily get beaten up by my L. meelis so i don't house them together, but meelis are bigger and more aggressive than most shellies. I think you'll be fine for the most part.
 
Well, if I don't go with a comp, and just do a pair/trio of occies and 2-3 julies, would you suggest adding anything else (other shellies, dither fish, etc)?

ETA: Oh, and should I add them all at one time, or space them out? (The tank is cycled already.)
 
I would add them all at the same time.

Instead of the comp, you could consider a calvus. They stay smaller than comps and grow really slow.
 
I'll check and see if they have a calvus at the lfs tomorrow, then. If they don't, would it be ok to wait to get one when they do, or just get something else?

OK, well I'm back.
I ended up with 1 juli. dickfeldi (they only had ornatus, which I didn't really like the yellow coloration of, the dickfeldi of course, and then the Marlieri gombe... beautiful coloration, but from what I have read are a little larger and more aggressive than the others.) I went with just 1 bc I was afraid that more mating could cause more aggression.
I did find a small black calvus (great looking fish!), but am worried as he is just sitting on the bottom, being very still.
I also brought home 3 Lamp. Minutus. Not sure what they are exactly, but I've read that they are supposedly a type of brevis, but a tad smaller. They are beautiful! A pearl white, with barely-there stripes/dots, and bright blue eyes. I got 1 that is a little larger than the other 2 in hopes of having a trio. I guess we'll see in the next few weeks.
Overall I'm very happy so far with my purchases. I'll post a pic as soon as I can!

update:
The calvus is doing well, swimming a bit and hiding behind one of the rocks piles. The others are all doing well, too. How soon should I expect problems to arise if there is more than 1 male shelly?
