30 gallon stocking help

if you are going to use Bio-Spira, you have to condition the water with either Marineland's Bio-Safe or Seachem's Prime. any other water conditioner may affect the way the bacteria consume the ammonia, as many water conditioners these days have added ingredients to help convert ammonia into a harmless state. that will interefere with the bacterias ability to comsume ammonia. Just follow the instructions on the package the way it says to. shake well, don't add into filter and don't add to one spot. just dump it in all around the tank. you can add almost your entire stock of fish right after, as the bacteria will be hungry for a source of ammonia. plecos should be added much later, as they don't do well in a newly established tank.

to locate Bio-Spira, use Marineland's store locator. now these stores won't necessarily carry Bio-Spira, but are more likely to, since they are listed to sell Marineland products.

ok,i found bio-spira at a place that marine land helped me find,i was wondering, would a ram or two be ok to put in the tank?my stocking plans were,
8-10 rummy nosed tetras
2 female bettas(im probably going to get more if there is agression)
1 2inch pleco(getting a new home when he is about 4 inches)
8-10 cardinal tetras
what would be a good larger fish, not big enough to eat the other fish,i"ve noticed that schooling fish in stores actualy school when there is a larger fish in the tank.would a pearle gourami or some other gourami be good instead of the rams?

You would be a little overstocked with 2 schools of tetras, drop one of them and then you can add a pair of rams or a single gourami (since they can be territorial) or both if you choose a dwarf gourami.

Rams are lovely wee fish, but are quite sensitive to water stats; they need to be pretty much perfect, and they need soft water.
a little shoal of tetras would look nice, but you probably couldn't get more that 12 if you want some room in the tank left.
cories are nice, pretty hardy, I'll be getting some myself soon hopefully.

you probably couldn't put all 3 of these in, or if you do keep to 6 to 8 tetras and 5 cories.
Good luck when making your choice.

cool,i like rummy nosed tetras more,so my new plans,
8-10 rummy nosed teras
2 female bettas
1 baby pleco
1-2 dwarf gourami's
what would be a good gourami type to put in with the above after the pleco gets her new home?

Gouramis shouldn't have a problem with female bettas, it's the male bettas that they have a problem with. My favorite gourami is the honey gouramis, stays smaller than the regular dwarf. I agree that only 2 can be a bad idea, as they're still territorial and having 3 may spread out the aggression.
