30-45#s would be good for most types of rock if you're looking for live filtration. Temp for live rock is the same as what you'll want the tank. Shoot for 78-81 although it can be a little bit out of that range for many species.

ammoina= 3ppm
nitrates= 20
nitiates= 0
ph= 8.0

Look like its close to being ready to add fish, i have removed the bag of shrimp which will bring the ammoina to 0 by tomorrow i would guess.

^ any I.D on that black thing, there is also another strange critter in the tank....

Looks good...that big piece is 15lbs? Where'd you order it from?

Did you cure the rock again? I think that might have cause my ammonia to spike... I bought pre-cured rock, and then the water clouded up, and the ammonia spiked... I dont know if it was because of the rock :huh:

I got it from a company based out of IN, called premium aquatics. they were close and had good reviews. It was a fast, and good shiping. Yes its 15 lbs on fully cured tonga. Has alot of critters, i have no idea what they are. Ill go over there and look, and i seem to always find a different one. The link to the site isnt working, ill get it asap.

with both chunks of Lr i have in there the water never got cloudly. My ammonia is up because of the decomposing shrimp...

btw,

-what is a harmful lvl of ammonia for fish?

-How long does it take to turn ammonia into nitrites, and nitrites into nitrates?

I would say you want to keep your ammonia at 0 which should be hard if you have enough biological filtration going on. And once the nitrogen cycle has been completed, from what I understand, ammonia is converted into nitrites, is converted to nitrates almost instantly.

i'm a bit confused on the readings. the nitrates are 20 and the nitrites are 0? but the nitrites were up before and now they are 0 and the ammonia is still up? that seems wierd to me..? should have seen ammonia spike followed but nitrites going up and ammonia going down, then ammonia at 0 and nitrites up and then going down... i'm confused about that but think you def need to wait a bit before thinking about fish. get the rest of your rock (i have 65# in my 37 and think it's just enough and the tank is tall) then get a cleanup crew and then after a bit get a fish... slowly, slowly, slowly... and the black thing is really too fuzzy for me to give you any idea of what it could be, sorry!
