the readings were accerate to the best of my color reading skills. which isnt saying much :rofl: .

What kind of ammonias and nitrites can a clean up crew handle? such as snails.

Ammonia = 1 down from 3 in most of my past tests
Nitrites = 0
Nitrates = 20
PH = 8.0
SQ = 1.021
temp = 77 C
Only reason my ammonia is up cause i still have that bag of shrimp in there. I belive im ready to add fish... This tank was a fully cycled FW aquarim that was sprayed out...

If i take out my Shrimp tonight, test it tomorrow and get ammonia/nitrites =0 with a reading of Nitrates i dont see why im not ready... I also had about 21 pounds of LR in the tank to keep the Nitrates down, i dont think i will even have to do a huge water change.

What do you guys think?

You can take the shrimp out but I don't believe you're ready to add fish yet. The bacteria for FW and SW are completely different and it being cycled for FW before doesn't really have much relevance to what you're doing with it now.

Be patient, take the shrimp out and let the tank finish it's cycle before adding any livestock, even clean up crew.

edit: You need to get your salinity up to 1.023-1.024, you'll want the pH up a little as well. I shoot for 8.4 on that

Unless I misunderstood your ammonia is still at 1. Remove it and see if you can get it down to 0.

Took readings today.. had ammonia/nitrites at 1 and nitrates at 20...

I took out the shrimp about 24 hours before i took this reading, If there is no source of ammonia where the hell is it coming from! and with no source will this cause the cycle to end?

i would suggest you just give it time..it should come down to zero as the cycle progresses....and yes, once the ammonia has been converted to nitrite and nitrite to nitrate, that will be the end of your cycle..

waiting for my 20lbs of Fiji to get here, then i have to sift though the sand and get junk out that the LR i put in made, since i didnt clean it prior. After i get the 40+ pounds of Lr where i want it and make sure its stable, a few days after ill begin to stock.

Readings today were werid. I havent taken them in awhile

Nitrates were 40!
Nitrites were 30!
ammonia was .25!

after ammonia reachs 0, ill do a water change and get my first 2 livestock (clowns).

you will want your nitrites at 0 as well... they are even more toxic to livestock then ammonia... nitrates on the other hand are not as deadly..

Yeah, don't get any fish yet. Wait till your ammonia and nitrites are 0. Nitrates can have up to 20 and be fine, but you DEFINITELY want 0 on the other two or you're still deep in the cycle.

And you might get a little mini-cycle when you add the rest of that rock.
