315G Plywood Tank Build

That's what I figured, we pay $250 for a five gallon bucket of their industrial stuff.

Did you ever think about using UGK Drylok? It says its for fish ponds......

Did even consider it. Once I started reading about PC I was pretty much hooked. There just didnt seem to be a down side to using this stuff.

wow this is turning out really nice!

i like the piece of driftwood a lot too.

Thank you, this is the wood after I cut off a bunch to get it into the tank. It was a bear to carry it from the banks of the river too my truck.

Sweet driftwood, what do you have to do to "sterilize" it or can you just put it in?

There really is no why to sterilize it. It's too big to be placed in any container I have other then my swimming pool which is closed and covered for the winter and full of it's own chemicals anyway. I cleaned it up and will place it in the tank long belore any fish and monitor the water.

makes sense. I live here on Camp Lejeune, and there is all kinds of driftwood, the water is brackish, I would love to put some of these sweet pieces in the tank but always worry about "polluting" the tank.

The salt in the wood for you should not be an issue I wouldn't think. They say a little salt in a FW tank is good but it's a different salt. In my case, I think I am going to put the driftwood in the tank with some coppersafe or similar product and let the water circulate for a while and then drain and refill and add my filter media. Seems like it would give the DW a nice bath and wash off any nasties and the coppesafe would kill any bacteria.

copper safe as in chelated copper sulfate?

many may advise against that as chelated copper may stay with the wood.
this may render the tank unsafe for some invertebrates.
use of chlorine or hydrogen peroxide would prob be safer.

How much Hydrogen Peroxide would I want to put in a 300G tank to accomplish what I want?

Did some searching and didnt find many threads where people were actually sterilizing driftwood in their tanks but from the looks of it I am going to need about 3 galllons if I fill the whole tank up.According to what I am reading HP kills about everything and then will turn into water/oxygen. So, I'll fill the tank, add the HP, let it work it's magic for a couple hours and then drain and refill. See any issues with this?

Very interesting, I shall begin my search of the elusive perfect peice of driftwood then, I have a few huge rubbermaid tubs, that even if I soak half of it at a time, would be effective. Thanks for doing the leg work on this one!
