4300 Gallon Plywood Build (3600+ Take 2)

Exactly, I was interested in the info encase I ever decide to do something like this I could get a rough Idea of what to expect to save me some wasted time. But hay no problem as i once installed an earth retaining wall without a permit (never again).

LOL, an earth retaining wall is something altogether different.

i saw a whole bunch of railroad ties (the extemely large peices of wood under the tracks) and thought, hmm that would make some good frame peices for a large tank..

Think again. Those things are treated with creosote. VERY BAD ****! You most definitely don't want that in your home.

Oh cool, found that the pack of Philips bits has 3 different sizes including the one that I need. Thought it was 7 of the same size. Lots more progress tomorrow night before the Saints vs. Patriots on Monday night!

Oh it worked! I just found out that by having a chance to talk to all the contractors free waiting for the permit office to open I could have saved myself allot of material, and techniques that would have prevented the wall from sagging 5 years later. After that lesson my other projects went well getting all the free code advice and it turned out that the fees were not that bad and was able to see all the safety issues I may have been liable for.

Sorry didn't mean to take this in that direction, I wont mention it again. It certainly looks you know what your doing especially from my perspective.

Started working on the 32 gallon canisters. I have to go to Lowe's tomorrow at lunch to pickup some pvc fittings to retrofit the two holes in the top of them. The plan is for the water to enter the larger hole and exit the smaller one which will feed a pump that will return water to the tank. I don't know which media I will use in the canisters, but I suspect they will be more chemical than biological, but there is the possibility of both. Only time and experimentation will tell.

I'm feeling antsy about the lack of 2x6 tabs tying in the back wall to the floor, so I think I'm going to do one of two things:

1) get 8"-10" lag bolts and bolt the floor to the back wall from both sides alternating every foot.

or

2) get 12" threaded rod and bolt the floor the the back wall every 18"

Opinions?

Four barrells dedicated to chemical filtration? What you going to run in them? Nice link on barrel fittings, going to be sure to give them a try on my 2 x 55 gallon drum filter for my pond.

Here are some brackets you might be able to use.
