5 gal betta and platies

I change 25% of my water every week in all my tanks. I'm still contemplating.

Vaderbanger

I will ask you again, for the second time, please stop giving bad advice.

platies are small and not overly active
Platies are not "small" fish. Neon's are small 1" fish, platies grow to 3 inches. I have them, they do get that big, when feed properly.

just keep up with the water quality by doing water changes twice a month of about 20%
This is not acceptable. Small tanks require more care than larger tanks. 50% water changes every week!!!!

really? I didn't know that!!!! :o!!!! I will definatly change 50% water than!! Is it alright with the 25% in the bigger tanks?

I do 50% weekly on all my tanks.

oh wow!!! That is a lot! I'll try it though!

P.S. I now realized the platies WOULD be too large. Thanks for knocking it into my brain!!!!!

I'll add the 2 ADFS( I asked previously and people thought it a good idea) to the 5 gal with the betta. If something should go wrong, I'll take out the frogs!

THANKS everybody!!!

fishkeeper,
If you plan on putting those platies in your 5 gallon, I just suggest that you not mention it on here.....some people think it's ok, some don't...and the ones who don't will voice their opinion because they care about the quality of life your betta will have. This is why this hobby is so addictive, you want to keep Bettas and platies, no room in the 5 gallon, so then you get another tank! According to your specs, you already have a betta and platies together in a 10 gallon anyway.

you CAN keep a betta and 3 platies in a 5 gallon its fine
just keep up with the water quality by doing water changes twice a month of about 20%
platies are small and not overly active like lets say zebra fish. zebra fish or any other fast moving fish i wouldnt get because they need more surface area to swim, but platies?? lol come on people stop playing fish police, they will be fine

If your platties are not constantly zipping around the tank, something is VERY wrong with them... I have a planted platy tank and they are NON STOp...Always chasing and zipping around. Water changes twice a month? You have got to be kidding...Try more like twice a week. Leave Mr. Betta in the 5 by himself.

platies arent small fish??? when you keep massive sized cichlids yes platies are small fish
they probably look bigger to some people who never kept truly large fish.
platies arent super fast fish...you mean to tell me you can compare a platy to a zebra fish?
platies swim of course but please they are not an overly hyper fish
and they arent even in the medium sized range, they are small period

Yes I have kept monsters in the past... I had over 500 gals of S.A cichlids of all shapes and sizes....Platys are not huge, or even medium sized, that I will agree with, but 5 gals is not enough room for them. As far as hyper goes, I guess I am the only one with hyper plattys... They never stop... I have yet to be able to get a decent pic of that tank because they never stand still long enough.. Either way, 5 gals is not suitable and certainly not suitable for a Betta to compete it.
