My 5 gallon invert tank has been set up for a while and I just wasn't happy with how it was looking. So I did a complete redo. I originally had soil covered by gravel but as soon as I started to move things the water turned black. I decided to ditch the dirt and I bought some fluorite and covered it with black gravel.

I spent all day removing as many shrimp as I could. I knew the snails would reproduce fine so I didn't bother to save as many lol. Now it's all set back up and the inverts are back in their tank. The shrimp love the driftwood and keep climbing to the very top! I hope this helps them to use more of the tank space. I have had the cherry shrimp for a while and now I'm starting to think of adding another shrimp species but I'm not sure what.

Anyway the first pic is the before the others are the after :D Hopefully I'll be able to post again in a few weeks once the plants settle back in.

is that a metal framed slate bottom tank??

did you reseal it yourself?
what did you use? did u make the bottom glass?

I love these tanks.. and that one is NICE

1 more thing though.... if that is the small heater that the sell at wal-mart (which I think it is) GET RID OF IT NOW!

they are total garbage.. I have gone through like 6 of them.. they last like 1 month max.. and I acctually had one overheat and cook my guppies. horrible product

just wanted to save you some heartbreak

It is a metal framed slate bottom tank that I found at Goodwill :D It held water when I got it but I resealed it anyway. I just used aquarium sealant that I found at Menard's.

Which heater do you mean? The first one or the second one? The small heater in the first picture did come from walmart. It's the smallest one I could find and I've had it for a long time without any problems. Right now there is a different heater in the 5 gallon that I got with some other equipment. I'm not sure where it came from. I switched them out because the larger one is adjustable.

you used aquarium sealant? how long ago did you do it?

just asking because I have heard people having disasters because the silicone will not bond to the slate.. many people take a piece of glass and stick it on top of the slate and then seal it in that way.

and yes I was talking about the heater in the first pic. I guess I was just really unlucky lol. just beware and keep an eye on it I guess

Yeah I had heard that too. I sealed the tank in march. I didn't have much trouble with it. But like I said the tank held water just fine before I even tried to seal it. I didn't remove the old stuff that's all on the outside. I just used sealant inside to make it more secure. It looked like it had hardly been used.

sweet tank

Good job !!!!!!!!!!!
