5 Year Old Girl Arrested, Handcuffed

Now it said the teacher took the jelly beans away because the girl was acting 'silly'. As Matak says, we don't know the details. Was the girl shoving them up her nose? Was she just being fun silly? Just what the heck is silly and was it deserving of having the jelly beans taken away?

When I read that part of the story, I had wondered if the teacher had something out for the kid. We don't know as of now.

That woman is an idiot. I think it was a good idea, certainly better than the rediculous idea of "time out" which I think is such nonsense and does NOTHING.

A good butt smacking would help too. Both the girl AND mom.

Sorry but I'm not Politically correct.

The girl deserved something, but handcuffed, I just don't agree with.Lila
But Lila, the girl wasn't hurt and the scare brought out the desired reaction: "I don't want to go to jail," she said moments after her arrest Monday. That scare the police put into her won't have a lasting traumatic effect, but the lesson she learned hopefully will be remembered. The lesson?: her actions will have consequences, , her anti social behaviour is not acceptable, and the world doesn't revolve around her.

I totally agree Matak. I'm sure the police(who probably are parents too) were just trying to scare her. Hopefully it worked. I think it was a pretty creative punishment. The child was not harmed in the process and it set an example for all the other kids in the class, too. ;) I hope a lawsuit isn't rewarded to the mother of the girl. If the school, district, or county is sued....who do you think pays for it?

First of all -- Matak congrats on your purchase of a 2004 VMAx!!!!!!!!!! Nice avatar!!!

Back to the topic...
I was expecting a few tazer shots too. I does happen down here! (Sad...) :thud:

Sorry, I gave credit to Matak when it was actually Joe I was quoting.

Joe, I agree with you, the kid needed a scare. I just don't think binding her hands and cuffing her feet were the answer. Maybe services need to be called and sent to the home.

Another thing, is this girl possibly a child with a disability that hasn't been diagnosed yet. It's up to parents to get that kind of stuff done. Her reaction is very much close to how an autistic may react. Or an OCC child.

I guess I have a problem with this when I read about an autistic boy, who was having a melt down, was bound, gagged and wrapped in sheets while at school. They left him in a room alone for too long. He died.

Yes, obviously they don't know how to handle an autistic melt down, but all of that?

As you said, we don't know the details. Yes, I believe the scare tactic should've been used. Maybe now they should use it on the parents.

Heres my emotions before, during, and after the article

Before : Wow! 5 year old??? Thats crazy and insane...

During : Little brat, doesnt deserve to be arrested but needs to be taught to behave

After (mainyl after "They set my baby up") : Wheres this woman? I'd like to slap her. I assume by acting silly she means using the jellybeans for other purposes then intended by the teacher. If i was the teacher i would have taken them too.

A child crying, whining, stamping their feet is one thing. But a child hitting, breaking things and such is another level. Its probably an important lesson for the child.
