55 gallon setting up!!!!!!!

Well I still can't get a hold of the guy. I had to drive like 2 hours to get the tank in the first place so I don't think I could take it back anyway. But am I right in thinking the stand and canopy would work for a standard 55 gallon the dimensions are 48x13and a half inches. Thanks

Okay here's my plan of action because I'm having serious doubts that guys gonna call back. I'll use the 29 as a sump and ditch the wet dry filter. Can anybody give me ideas how they have their sumps plumbed and how they're built? It'll definetly be different and I'd have to figure out a way to get in to it easily for maintanence. Maybe Wheels? Then I'd have to figure out some way to cover up the sides because I'd have to move it up forward I was thinking maybe using some kind of dividers and having them come off at an angle from the back of the tank. A little for looks and a little for any of the heat coming off of the tank. Just in case. Well anyway this is my "working idea" advice people please.

Well I haven't found a tank yet but I was just wondering how long does an average coral live. Well let's exxagerate a little here And say you have the same tank for 75 years. You'd obviously have to replace the fish. But would the corals reproduce enough to keep the group alive or would you eventually have to replace all of the corals? I've just been wondering about that for while. Thanks

OK guys I haven't been on for a while but I finally saved up enough for the 55 gallon tank and the other stuff i'll need. I'm so excited right now. I have to tell how I had ot get it though it's just too funny. I went to this one pet store were it was 89.99 a week ago. So I came back with my cousin and the pickup truck. I was all excited because the tanks were 20 % off and i joined there rewards program so I was going to get another 10% off. Then just to be sure I asked how much it was again. They had raised the price to 140.99 in like 5 or 6 days. So anyway 3 pet stores later and a trip to Walmart I came home with my big girl tank for only $99.99. It looks so huge compared to the other one.

Ok so onto my new plan. I'm going to sell the other tank on ebay with all of the stuff i don't want or need. I'm going tomorow early to buy salt and sand 20 gal. sump, 10 gal. quarantine tank. I'm going to take it to get drilled tomorow then set up all the plumbing.

And now my questions. Hopefully I will have this thing ready to cycle in about a week or 2. What do I need to have on while it's cycling?

I know the beginnings probably the most important time for the skimmer because of stability and all. But because I'll only have the cleanup crew in for the first month after it cycles. Do you think I could wait till the beginning of June to buy the skimmer. I'll have the money for a good one by then.

I was just wondering where everybody buys there bulbs from for there metal halides because none of the pet stores have them. Do places like Home Depot have them?

I just wanted to check to make sure these are good prices:$16.00 for 30 pounds argonite sugar grain sand. $50.00 for tub of instant ocean enough to make 160 gallons.

I just want to make sure so I know just in case the people tell me wrong. But how low should the hole be drilled and how big. What type of fittings do you use for the plumbing to the sump?

But anyway I'm sooooo happy right now. I'm finally actually getting started. For real this time:)!!!!!

Ok well I just found out that the newer tanks are made of tempered glass so there's a fifty/fifty chance it will shatter. So I have an overflow box ordered. The sand and salt is bought.

:headbang2:Whoo hoo!!! the cycle is officially started. I was wondering if people could give me some pros and cons of the different snails/ hermits available for CUC. thanks
