You need 7 species specific to get a tightly packed school. Or a biiger aquarium so they feel the need to school.

PS are you sure that one danio isnt a glofish?

danios in a school? ok, when i think of a "school" i think of all of them in a tightly packed group swimming around in unison... i've got 7 danios in my 55gal, and the only time they come close to each other is at feeding time... other than that, they're all doing their own little thing... is the school species specific? ie, would i need 7 zebra danios only? cause i've only got 2 zebras, 3 with long, flowing fins (one blue, one yellow, and the other green), then i've got one that is silver with a red top fin and tail...finally, the one that make me think of a rainbow...when the light hits him right, he shows off yellow, blue, red, etc. etc kinds of colors... come to think of it, i don't even think they're danios, but that's what they were sold to me as, so whatever... ANYWAY, my point is that they'll all swim together for a few seconds and split up and go all over the place... not my idea of a school or shoal
Twan,

You get better schooling when you are species specific (i.e. all of the same species). It would have been better, schooling wise, if you had picked danios that were of the same kind (all zebras, etc.) instead of picking 1 from pile A and 1 from pile B. That is probably why they aren't schooling well. Also, they school better the more you have. I bet your neon tetras school well because you have so many of them and they are the same species. If you had done this with your danios you would have had the same results as with your tetras. HTH.
